In preparation for a lift kit installation I was looking for new Shock and Struts. I don't notice any problems with the original suspension but, at 160k, I figured I mine as well do it. I did the bounce test on the front and back and I took it for a wild ride of speed bums and tight turns. The suspension is still very tight. With the front wheels off the struts and shocks look good. Anyone else with high miles on the original suspension?
My 2007 has 163k km on it and still feels like new. No comparison to new struts but feels more than OK and no need to swap them soon. Best regards, Nick Black 2007 Prius
2007... Almost 230K on original suspension. I drive very conservatively and attempt to avoid every single pothole. I think it matters where and how you drive to a certain extent. I also have a 2005 with 250K miles. shocks were replaced previously and I noticed rear shock lower bushings were destroyed. that car was driven in Jersey City, so it had a rough life
That's really interesting. I spent several years driving the car a lot and in bad MN winters. A lot of rusted bolts and nuts but the suspension is good enough not to risk aftermarket replacements.
In Holland the roads are in really good condition and winters are not that cold and snowy. We had one good week with snow and most people were working at home due to coronavirus. So my Prius was untouched during that time . All roads are maintained properly and have really smooth asphalt. Only thing we "suffer" from is a sloping road surface. There is some material underneath that "sinks" after a certain time due to heavy traffic. Our country consists for a large part of polders and peatland and will always continue to shrink. With bad struts this can make you feel sick as ... Best regards, Nick Black 2007 Prius
294k miles on our 2007 now, still with the original steering and suspension parts, and I see no reason to change them. The car spent most of its life on the freeways of SoCal, but has been mostly in NYC for the last few years.
Just shy of 200k the 2007 has original suspension and only issue is the lower stabilizer bar rubber bushings are starting to wear. Struts seem fine. No noise, no leaks.
