toyota only makes enough prime to satisfy carb for selling land yachts in cali. if said land yachts are scarce due to chip shortage, prime is unnecessary.
    it's all about balance

Is Toyota really trying to make money on PP sales? They have been virtually giving them away at least in CARB states. I am on my third PP, and so far I have not spent a penny (net) on owning it.

No idea, but I know this new 2021 Limited will have a significant, negative net cost to me using it in my business. I expect to make somewhere around 2-3k a year driving it.

I'd really love to get the tax credit this year but my dealer can't find any 2022 available, all allocations are spoken for.

Find a new dealer. There are 4 months left to find a 2022, that shouldn't be hard at all.

Oh I've already called around, nobody is doing any better. If my local dealership can get it done I'd rather work with them.

As well as limited supply, yes. Apparently the upcoming allocation for the whole state of Oregon was about 6 cars.

As a resident of Virginia, I knew nothing of CARB, so I am glad of the insight. I couldn't figure out why Toyota offered incentives in the neighboring state of Maryland but not in Virginia. The CARB thing explains it. I ended up buying my Prime LE in Connecticut, another CARB state.

0 Clue - when I bought my 2013 Prius C - I flew to Kansas. The dealer there had 100's of them. I assume Toyota offered them some kind of deal for taking the inventory, and then they blew them out. I want to say I paid 13k for a car that stickered for 18k, drove it 2 years, 60k miles and sold it back to my local toyota dealer for something like 12,500. It was nuts. Perhaps toyota sent a bunch to NE dealers and the demand wasn't there like it was/is on the west coast and they want to move them? I feel like the Prime is a niche vehicle, I've never seen one here (Northern KY near Cincy) and no one that sees mine has any clue what it is....

Most dealers in Oregon seem to have policy to sell locally first. Our dealer turns away out of state and out of town buyers - or at least keeps them at the bottom of waiting lists.
There is a $2000 rebate offer on the 2022 Prime - just no cars to buy!

Purchased my 21 Prime XLE from Empire Toyota on 8/13. Had to pay MSRP as they were selling them fast. $30K plus $259 for the all weather floor mats, $125 for the door edge guards, $209 for body side mouldings and $995 for delivery and processing fee for a sticker of $31,588. Add in the ceramic coating and Xmicrobe interior treatment at $795, the cash price jumped to $32,383. They hit me with a $75 process fee to do paperwork for the transport sticker which added another $12.50, total up to $32,470.50. Finance insurance added another $95 for grand total before Tax, title and tags of $32,565.50. With the $5k cash back out the door price was $27,565.50 With the $4502 tax credit my $32k car will cost me just over $23k. Financed at 4.24% for 60 months with $10k down so finance charges will add another $2K but compared to my 2005 Pruis I expect to save $200 a year on fuel costs. Maybe more if I can find free chargers on my summer road trips.

Same here, except they added an additional $695 for corrosion protection and $175 for processing fee. All mark up. However financed with my own bank for 1.89%

    Congrats!
