Is it normal to have some shiny galling(sp?), or wear visible in the middle of the slide pins? Following Nutz About Boltz video, and a perfect narrow wrench to use is a bicycle cone wrench in 17mm. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Not surprising to me. The pins don't really slide in and out very much; they will live for long periods at pretty much the same extension, and just wiggle side to side a bit with applications of the brake, while moving in or out less than a third of a mm or so. A little bit of a shiny spot seems normal.
I'm pretty sure that the pins were never serviced/lubed in its 124k mile on the odometer lifetime. I'll see what the front pins look like in a bit. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Front sliding pins were pretty dry, compared to the rear pins. Brake pads seemed to be evenly worn, I'm glad I finally got around to it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I didn't take pics of the front slide pins, but how come only one of the two slide pins has the black rubber seal on it? The back slide pins both have the rubber on the ends. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
In older models, there weren't any rubber bits at all. I'd guess they were added for some non-critical reason like to reduce rattly noises, and maybe the position or weight, etc., of the front calipers already keeps one of the pins from rattling. The repair manual does show the two pins different in front, with the one that has the bushing going in the lower position.
Hmm, I cant be certain, but the position of the slide pin with the rubber bushing at the end may have been reversed on one side on my car. It didn't bother me enough to go back and look at the first caliper I already completed though.
