Drove to high school in a Model A with the gas tank almost sitting in my lap. Did have an accident when some fools removed a stop sign and we banged into the turning in front of us '55 Ford wagon. Ford had its whole side ripped up. We had a 6" front arched fender dent. Cops came, saw no sign. Only asked up to go back up the hill and show that our brakes (mechanical lever) worked. When we laid rubber stopping he left it to the insurance companies.

Later several VW and Porsches with gas tanks in the front trunk.

Wife had a '65 Falcon 2-dr when I married her. What a rust bucket. Too many trips back home to PA on salted roads.

Raced against Corvairs on a short demanding track. Falcons, Volvos, Saabs. Always wanted a '66+ convert Monza.

    Much safer now.

Pictures of the VW bus to be show maybe 3 feet of crush space to work with.

Which was enough for a smart fortwo to get a 4 star rating from NHTSA, and good from IIHS. Same for the Scion iQ.

Bob's comparison to the model 3 could be a little more fair because of the size difference. Maybe a better comparison would be the model Y .

    Same result.
Even so, for a first attempt? Maybe VW at LEAST deserves a nice little encouraging pat on the head for how fast they slapped these two models together - then say - "you can do better next time"

A car is more than e-mpg too.

OK, like OTA updates out of the box? Like a mature charging network in my home country with many stalls per location?

I've argued here that the universal availability of gas stations is something that a new technology has to match. Always located near toilets, and most often near eating places.

OTOH, I like the VW's controls more than the Tesla's. And that was enough for me not to buy.

Yeah dash controls, cargo space, spare or no, and so on.

Was in our daughters model 3 last night: cool car, but I’m NOT enamoured with that laptop in the dash, and a few other things. The blinking door handles for example. Both outside and inside.

I just saw an ID.4 on the road here in Colorado. It was turning into a gas station. I'm not kidding.

Based on the reviews, if you want panel gaps, go ID.4. Range and software integration and charger support, the Y.

My first VW was in the 60s, next the 70s, and then the 80s. (Type 3, Type 4, 914, VR6) I think I'll pass.

Tesla is also famous for that.

Interestingly, I'm currently planning a short road trip, and my preferred route doesn't have any Tesla charging along the route - just a CCS charger.

same can be said for devices like Alexa. Others, would rather turn the light switch off them self - w/out concerns of your devices being used as a listening post for other entities.

Met an ID.4 (with it's owner) at a local Electrify America station. (I was taking a little nap charging our Clarity and was going to go in to Albertsons for some groceries). Politely asked me if I could help. Not knowing what I was looking at I unplugged the Clarity and had her move to my spot for the Level 2. Then I realized the bottom part of the CCS had a cover. Moved once more to the CCS side and eventually got it started. 60% (initial level) to 80% was amazingly quick in my opinion, at which there's a marker line on the EA screen I guess the advised fill up amount unless extra range is needed.

The port tended to lock the plug in place, both J-1772 and CCS. A press of the remote's unlock button seemed required to get the plug back out as we tried to figure out how to use it with her account. She never told me her lease rate but the price of hers was around $50k or just under if I recall. The big plus is no one pedal driving, which we both agreed we weren't fond of in the Tesla Y. (Both of us laughed how we tried to circumvent it the same way in the Y. Both surprised of the same experience trying to use Autopilot to do that. The Y would stop for a red light perfectly without a car in front/first in line. But halfway through the red light Autopilot would disengage leaving you to deal with the green). Free charging for 3 years. Tax credit. Good incentives as well...

Oh, she mentioned it took one month from initial $100 deposit to ordering to finally receiving it. If I understood correctly the ordering required another $500 but fully refundable if you didn't like it upon arrival.

    moto g(7) power ?

ID.4 first edition. Curious, it is not listed on the EPA web site, Fueleconomy.Gov.

I'm old enough to remember the 'Beta' software wars. No shade on the OP but there is a lot of pressure to over promise non-Tesla EVs that ordinary readers can not buy ... promised but not available for sale ... YET. They make Elon time seem like an atomic clock.
