Every year, Tesla reviews the previous year progress and summarizes their progress. At 94 pages, a long read.

ps. There are some compare and contrasts with non-Tesla EVs.

i think the problem with tesla is the media. simple minds like mine think musk isdesigning and building these cars all by himself.
when i read a report like that (skimmed) i realize that with all the hype about tesla losing this key person and that key person over the years, and all the flaws in their manufacturing process, i realize that there must be a significant number of evil geniuses working for tesla, and i am again amazed at what they have accomplished in so short a time.

They are “evil” if you are a Tesla competitor.

There’s a Tesla model 3 in the family; I’ve yet to screw up the courage to drive it. Fair to say there’s more of a “learning curve” than Prius?

In my mind I still view Tesla as luxury vehicles. They still have not reached the price point where it makes sense for us. Sure...the 'starting price' of a Model 3 is 40K. However, that is *rear wheel drive*...which certainly would NOT work in Minnesota winters. And, of course, no front wheel drive option. That leaves the AWD version...which starts at 50K. And then another 10K now for the self driving package. o_O The numbers just don't work for my situation...at all.

It is best to have a mentor operate the center screen and let you ‘drive the car.’

i agree, and there is no need for a lower price tesla yet, seeing that they are selling as many as they can make.
but with all due respect, that's not what this thread is about.

Then by all means, please elaborate. Some of us don't want to read a huge document/presentation just to find that the thread is about something altogether different.

To paraphrase the great Perry Mason: You opened the subject for discussion in your opening statement when you said that "There are some compare and contrasts with non-Tesla EVs." That makes Mendel's comments about barriers to adoption and farmecologist's comments about poor set of available options fair play.

Did I read correctly that the Tesla is so complex to operate that you should have a mentor teach you how to use the car WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING? That's crazier than the odd gear selector on the GEN 1 Prius. I was afraid to turn it over to the valet or car wash attendant.

When many of us got into our 1st manual shift vehicle (3 on the tree, 4 on the floor) most everyone had a mentor - helping us through the process of lurching as the clutch plates grabbed - or maybe grinding a gear.
Yet in an EV? why should the learning curve be any more or less.
    ;)

A computer operated car, each OS, many upgrades, and certainly different manufactures have their own approach to the man-machine interface. For example, put this Mac user in front of a Windows machine and I will hate it. So I operate the display so the driver can understand how the car can operate. If they buy their own, they can play with the display and master it.

My appologies Bisco. I always get you mixed up with bwilson. He was the one who said it in post #1. Now if you would not mind changing your name and avatar, I promise to never get confused about you two again. :)

Those are my word, a ps on the original post. I don’t remember Tesla saying anything about competing EVs. Just the technical comments are accurate.
