There is no guzzling BEVs for sale in the US. Looks like that BYD is gone.
There are power PHEVs that can be considered guzzlers, depending on the definition in use.

How does that compare to the fuel use of all the full hybrids on America's roads.

Force is not needed but it does feel like the state is trying to force economy cars off the road

I remember a timeframe from 2007-2011 that you literally never saw any pickups on the road, saw many 5-6 passenger situations coming out of a 2 door car made in the last 40 years.

Also bought my then 4 year old v8 half ton truck with 41,000 miles for $5000 in that timeframe for towing craft trailers, literally no one was buying trucks which made it so I was asked what I would pay and done.

it’s amazing what small changes in the cost of ownership do to folks vehicle preferences eh?

That’s why having consistent policy and predictable fee structures (leaving people an out on certain vehicle classes) would ensure that people that actually need said device budget for it and those that don’t get to pay extra for being stupid.

they seem to have survived

 

The most efficient bevs are the tesla's which also happen to be the best selling. I doubt anything in the short term would help them sell better as they are ramping manufacturing as fast as they can. Giving them more would just give them higher profit margins, of course that might push other companies to adapt ;-)

Lower efficiency phevs, there are no really low efficiency BEVs, are improving. Some point to rumored 67 mpge on the upcoming F150 lightning. That is low compared to the 142 mpge tesla model 3, but it is competing with trucks like the tundra that get an EPA 14-15 mpg depending on the configuration. That will save a lot of gas if it sells well which I think it will. More savings are in the work truck segment where electric power is needed on the work site. The lightnings trick is massive supply of electric power, charged at night, but used during the day, reducing the need for diesel and gasoline generators.
