Hi everyone, I own a 2013 with approximately 160k miles. I'm looking to change out the front struts and springs. I'm going with the KYB full assembly. Is there anything else that I might as well replace or should be replacing? Any tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Depends on how you buy them? If you order as an assembly then yes which also comes w/ new springs. If just the strut, then no. . Just checked Rockauto, Strut itself is $72, as assembly $148
It will cost less to buy the complete assembly then parting it out. I've already checked. If you only buy the strut, you're intalling it with an old bearing, bumper stop, plactic guard, which both are usually torn up, and an old spring. Springs do weaken. Then you have to take it apart, and put it back together. Which takes a lot of time. Easier and faster to remove the old one, install the new one with all new parts.
I bought the ‘complete KYB front strut assembly’ from 1A Auto and the strut mount was not KYB, they subbed cheaper unit, instead of heavy duty rubber on top it had flimsy felt tape. I had ordered the KYB mounts earlier intending to use original spring but returned them when I decided to go the complete assembly route to save time. Made me wonder what spring they used! They also shipped the two units in a huge box without padding or bubble wrap so the 2 units bounced around in box all the way to Hawaii. Spending my Prius $$$ elsewhere since.
That's weird. Seems if you get a complete strut from KYB, it would be the whole thing. Maybe they just took the strut and used whatever they had to make a complete strut....
Is it the KYB SR4246 & SR4245? This is what I plan on getting. Thanks Can you tell me which stabilizer links would be best ? Should I go with OEM? Which brand would be best for the stabilizer bar bushings?
I got Moog stabilizer links, reasonable price and have grease fitting at each end. I shoot a little grease in there when I rotate tires. Also, I used the OEM bushings.
The part numbers look right for the strut assembly Rockauto 5% off Expires Aug. 8, 2021 175744774109682775 I went w/ Moog bushing too since i was buying from Rockauto anyway. No need to runaround. Make sure you clean the bar very well
I went with mevotech stabilizer links. They were a little bite more, but I seemed to have found better reviews on them. I couldn't find the OEM bushings so, I went with Moog. Just hoping these parts hold up as well as the OEM. I just placed my order. I found a code online, but used yours instead. I went with the Moog bushing. Pretty solid website. I was able to pick up a cardone wiper motor, too. Price was cheaper than anywhere else.
