“This is not coercion,” U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes, a Ronald Reagan appointee, wrote on June 12. “Methodist is trying to do their business of saving lives without giving them the COVID-19 virus. It is a choice made to keep staff, patients, and their families safer.”

Houston Methodist CEO Marc Boom applauded the ruling in a statement, saying that “employees and physicians made their decisions for our patients, who are always at the center of everything we do.”

i would prefer everyone working or visiting a hospital i had to go to would be vaccinated, bbut i doubt they are. haven't read about any mandates around here.

even the cdc doesn't mandate employees to be vaccinated

The CDC doesn't work directly with patients, with or without COVID.

religions are funny things. one day they're baking bread for the needy, the next day they're baking the needy.

the employees in this case had already decided to leave instead of blindly complying with unneeded demands from their employer. this was simply a "see the power we have over you" move, against everyone that stayed and bent over.

eliminating the "difficult employees" is always a great way to throw your weight around... even if they just leave on their own, you get to say "I fired them because I own you!"to the weaker minded folks that stay and put up with it.

the employer did this to cull undesirable thinkers and gain power, not for patient care

The Methodist Hospital is a private entity. Typically this means 'employment at will' for both the employees and employer.

Employees have the right to immediately end their employment with the Hospital -they are not indentured slaves.
The Hospital also has the right to immediately end their relationship with an employee.

A similar situation with mask was litigated in our area during the height of the pandemic. A private entity - school- had a mask policy
If a student had to be told to put their mask on -a written reminder and a phone call to the parent = strike 1
If the student experienced a second violation- the parent was called to pick up their student with an explanation of why the student was being sent home =strike 2
If the student experienced a 3rd violation the parent was called to pick up their child and the child was no longer eligible to attend in person school or any school related in person activity= strike 3.

Of course the school and their masking policy prevailed.

    Sometimes I agree.
Other times, spirituality can be sorta serious.
    It's all about context.

Some did. Some had to be terminated.

Yeah....my employer does the same thing.
They think they can tell me when to come to work and what to do while I'm there.
They even insisted that I wear masks back during the dampanic, and they forced me to take a work physical and subjected me to a background check and everything.
They even have the right to give me a whizz quiz to make sure I'm not a stoner, and they force me not to drink on the job, and be nice to all of their customers.

Gee....it's like they think they OWN the freekin company or something.....:ROFLMAO:

Maybe that is why they require surgeons to wear surgical masks as well.
    No?

Heard that there is some research showing that scrubbed hands without gloves could be better than the surgeon wearing gloves. A residue left by gloves could be interfering with the healing process.

makes sense. i could have told you that without the study. but even indoors, depending on the viral load and time spent, there is some degree of effectiveness

For science, it has to be proven through an experiment.

agreed. but what can you really prove when the situation is always different? too many variables to come up with anything but generalizations.

life isn't a controlled experiment. that we know of

    Meh.

    The AAAS is a 501(c)(3).
    ...Just like the NRA.

The GOOD news is that they do some good junk, and unlike some of the more objectionable 501(c)(3)s out there...one dip of the beak is enough.
..meaning they're NOT ALSO a de jure line item in the federal budget.

    Here's the real-world thing....
For the Rona, masks can be effective.

Vaccines ARE effective, and (very much UNLIKE masks!) you don't have to be a vaccine karen for the vaccine to be effective for YOU.
If you're really worried that the passenger in 15b might have faked-out dot.gov and falsified their "vaccine passport" then you probably don't know very much about how vaccines work, and you really should consider just sheltering in place.
The only down side of the shot is that you don't get to use them like a crucifix (or hijab or yamika.)

Two things can be true at once.
It is true that masks are not 100-percent effective at preventing the spread of COVID.
    That's Ok.....neither are the vaccines.
However (comma!) it is also true that dot.gov CAN FORCE you wear a mask in an airport and on a plane, and if you're not into the masks you'd better plan on driving or walking.

    Pro Tip:

Make the rental car reservation early, and BRINIG MONEY.
    There's a shortage. ;)

If you don't think that dot.gov can MAKE you wear a mask, you're wrong!
They did it in 1920....and they did it in AGAIN in 2020.

JUST remember...if dot.gov can force you to wear a mask then they can also force you to get a vaccination.
They have to use a different muscle group to do it....and they haven't done so YET....but it is within the scope of federal law.

surgeons wear scrubs, gloves, hair nets, face shields, foot coverings, and scrub up to their elbows to prevent dropping something into open wounds... not for airborne transmission of viruses to the patient, who is intubated/sedated with a fence between them and the surgery area.

but hey, if you feel like a surgeon while wearing a diaper, that's good. don't cut anyone!

Variables just ensure there is plenty of subjects for grad students to do their original research on.;)

won't be long though. hopefully before the numbers start back up in the fall.

in my opinion, if you work in health care, and you don't trust medical science, you're in the wrong industry
