Source: ‘Two Americas’ may emerge as Delta variant spreads and vaccination rates drop | US news | The Guardian

Overall, new US Covid cases have plateaued to a daily average of around 15,000 for after falling off as the nation’s vaccination program ramped up. But the number of first dose vaccinations has dropped to 360,000 from 2m in mid-April. A quarter of those are newly eligible 12- to 15-year-olds.

Separately, pandemic researchers are warning that a picture of “two Americas” is emerging – the vaccinated and unvaccinated – that in many ways might reflect red state and blue state political divides.

Only 52% of Republicans said they were partially or fully vaccinated, and 29% said they have no intention of getting a vaccine, according to a CBS News/YouGov poll. 77% of Democrats said they were already vaccinated, with just 5% responding that were resisting the vaccine.

“I call it two Covid nations,” Peter Hotez, a vaccine researcher at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, told BuzzFeed News.

Sounds accurate. The complication is the correlation between unvaccinated and medically uninsured. This leads to increases in hospital and medical costs.

    lol !

let new know when you're ready to give a car salesman your bank account login/password because he has a Green Star on his vaccination phone app that says he's trustworthy ! ;-)

now that the silliness is out of the way, have you run any statistics/estimating software to determine what your chances of actually finding an infected person at a concert might be ?

... and what your chances of being infected by them might be ? (vaccinated vs non?)

I'm always curious where people pull their stats from, it if they calculate their own.

I thought it was the other way around ?

the non vaccinated were supposed to be falling over dead, clogging the hospitals, incinerators running 24/7 to keep up with supply, the virus could survive for days even in hot pavement in full sun , remember what the news told us in the beginning ?

they were, and could be again next winter. but the numbers will be lower than last winter due to the vaccinated percentage.
but some unvaccinated believe the vaccine is going to kill that percentage off

the vaccine had an entire year to prove the media correct (before vaccines were ready) but it failed...

I haven't personally spoken with anyone that believes the vaccine is going to kill masses of people off.

if I look online it APPEARS that millions of people believe that 5g is going to turn on nanobots that turn all the vaccinated people into zombies that eat the newest iPhone version (or something similarly laughable) .... but after a while of talking to real people with real opinions.... these wild claims look more and more like media manipulation to divide the people.

I haven't asked anyone. they usually volunteer it in regular conversion if the topic goes there. frankly, none of my friends (vaccinated or not) care either way if the other people in the conversation have/have not.... this leads me to believe it's much more media manipulation than real division.... kind of like all the racial garbage you see online: the media beats the drum 24/7, but the people are actually pretty good at getting along with each other every day.

might be geographic, idk. around here, many don't seem to want to be in the same buildings with unvaccinated peoplewho go maskless. they might still be spreaders, the delta variant is growing, and the vaccines don't give 100% protection

    Ditto here.
I limit my exposure to indoor events with unmasked people I don’t know. I mainly do this for their protection, as I take immune suppressing drugs.
The last thing I want to do is spread COVID to others.
All of my friends have had their vaccination (both).

there is barely any information about "delta" , and even fewer studies available that deal with it.

can you link to a source for alpha vs Delta that shows transmissibility and current uptake ?

I can't find anything separating the two.

no, i have just read the warnings from experts. idk what data they have or what is available to the public.
for instance, there are reports of surges in the midwest, uk and moscow because of the variant. the numbers are there, but perhaps they don't know why it spreads more easily yet.
better safe than sorry is my motto

In my circle, almost everyone cares. Some more than others. Although I agree it is not political, getting the vaccine has reached the same level of derision. In other words, I have a very strong opinion on whether you should get the vaccine or not. However, due to the current climate of our country, I am perfectly fine with you not telling me. Just as I have a strong opinion on politics. I am perfectly happy to debate you on it but if you get testy with me, then I'd rather we talk about cars instead. :p

Other than the basic "you wouldn't expect natural selection to amplify a variant that spreads less easily"?

Alabama claims 32% are vaccinated but there is an age bias. The older residents have a much higher rate than the youngsters although I don’t have metrics.
