The included scale bar places the needle gauge between 19 and 20. Larger than the flu vax needles I've recently received (didn't look at the covid vax needles), but smaller than what I use on livestock.

Smooth edges don't cut as easily as rough edges, so I'm not sure the needle edges should be smooth. But my eyes can't focus on anything that small anymore, so can't really comment about the business end of the needles I use.

I liked @fuzzy1 #3861 (what a thread eh?) and now will disagree :)

Based not only on kitchen-knives experience, approaching surgical-scalpel shape (made well at about 100-atom scale) is the way to go. I suppose this includes willing meat such as vaccine recipients.

Farm animals and prey of Megalodons (and their surviving heirs) present more challenges for in going. It could be called unwillingness. There I'd not doubt that serrations can provide benefits.

But I, having agreed to the whole deal and not twitching, desire the smoothest available delivery. Or removal, if we are talking about blood or platelets. So, when I see a needle showing "Megalodon serrations' I do hope to get a much better-crafted one instead.

    Meh.

They've been microchipping pets for years now.
I regularly laugh at some of my fellow employees who duct-tape their PC webcams to prevent people 'snooping on them' and then take their cell phones into the restroom with them.

    Humans....
    What can you do, eh?

They don't *need* to chip people.
People happily stand in blocks-long lines to be among the first to get a multi-camera, multi-spectrum, sensor laden device with which they happily spill out every minute detail of their lives.

I'm under the impression that some degree of roughness or serration is desirable for an easy and clean cut, but have no real clue about the proper dimensional scale of that lack of smoothness. Whether it should be visible at this low optical microscope level, or more in line with electron microscope level, or somewhere in between, is beyond my experience.

But I have noted countless pictures of people getting vaccinated, and being surprised at how much skin indent is occurring. Couldn't the needles be made to enter with less pressure? Though human hide is less robust than bovine hide, and generally backed with a deeper softer fat cushion than calves have.
One of my cell cams is duct-taped too. ;)
These CDC needle guidelines are all in the 22-25 gauge range: 0.70 to 0.53 mm OD. That is considerably smaller than the 1.0 mm outside diameter of the chip photo earlier.

Mine felt like a needle prick...

Ever been stuck by a straight pin?
    I have.

The microserrations you are thinking of are much smaller, probably the electron microscope scale.

    USA stats:
33 million infections (supposedly) to date
    600k dead (supposedly) to date
    44% vaccinated (only?) to date

sooooooo, there are somewhere around 128 MILLION that should be spreading it like wildfire, EVERYWHERE, since the face diapers and socialist distancing are both no longer being used. remember, your said face diapers and socialist distancing worked... but we aren't doing that anymore.

1 why isn't it running rampant right now among the 56% (128,000,000 !!!) that are not vaccinated ?

2 why isn't the flu also everywhere, since face diapers are gone ?

The good thing, they are mostly the ones who self-cull themselves. Speculation, the 500,000 who COVID-19 killed might have been the election margin for the miss information in Chief.

What Is an Internet Troll? (and How to Handle Trolls)

"The most classic adage regarding trolling is, “Don’t feed the trolls.” Trolls seek out emotional responses and find provocation amusing, so replying to them or attempting to debate them will only make them troll more. By ignoring a troll completely, they will likely become frustrated and go somewhere else on the internet."

The face mask restrictions have only been lifted recently, and it isn't flu season.

Make that reported cases. Very many went unreported, especially those with asymptomatic or minor cases. The CDC estimates total cases exceed 114 million:

    upload_2021-6-16_18-35-12.png

Make that 53% at least partially vaccinated to date, from what I see. The 44% figure is for people passing the fully vaccinated milestone, but even partials have significant protection.

    Other figures--
Ages 18-64: 58% at least partially vaccinated
Ages 65+: 92% at least partially vaccinated
You seriously overstate the fraction that has not been vaccinated and didn't have the disease. And that group is very heavily weighted towards children and the young adults who are least afflicted by serious illness. Senior citizens, who were being hospitalized and killed at the highest rates by far last year, now have just an 8% rate of non-vaccination.

Similar to what another reply pointed out, depending on who is reporting, between 98% and 99% of people being hospitalized for covid here now are unvaccinated. And they are much younger than the people being hospitalized a year ago.

Speak for your own community, not mine. We are still doing those when mixing out in public among the unvaxxed, even though we are one of the dozen states that has exceeded 70% vaccination rate of the eligible population. Two more weeks before we stop doing that.

if the CDC estimates of 114,000,000 is correct, that hurts the death rate AND helps the herd immunity argument at the same time....
600,000 (supposedly) dead from the Rona
    /
    114,000,000
    =
    .5 % death rate, instead of 2%
    (^^ note the decimal point!)

do you mean today, or cumulative since the beginning ?

    I am.
how do you know when you're out_n_about with unvaccinated vs vaccinated ? are you just using the estimated percentages or is it a really small group of people that you know the status of ?

if you're vaccinated, why do you care if the others aren't in your group ?
(I'm not asking this to be inflammatory, I'm genuinely curious. you're the only person who responded with stats and logic, instead of getting mad that someone (_me_) questioned the popular opinion. thank you. )

very well done ! I'm surprised more people couldn't respond with factual responses. thanks for the discussion !

how many months of regular gathering would you consider long enough for the mixing of masses to be sufficient to see surges ?

we'll need government intervention. people are too dumb and selfish to accomplish much on their own
