We've been paying for Safety Connect for years now, the first (multi-year) renewal was really quite expensive. I recall somewhat recently receiving a notice that the service on ours will be discontinued because of the 2G network shutdown. Yet yesterday I receive a renewal email that they are going to charge my family $80 for another year of service. What gives? I don't want to be paying for something that no longer works. Did the 2G network get on life support or something?

    Thanks for any advice!

Many networks are starting to discontinue 3G services support in the rush to build out 5G. I would be surprised if any still operated 2G services.

Press the button and see what happens?

    Right hand, meet left hand.
    Call them and cancel.
HIGHLY unlikely that the old network will survive.
But it is easier for them to just shotgun out ALL of the renewals and take all the money that they can.

Might want to check and see if your smart phone has similar features.......if you have a fairly new one.

Thank you guys for the responses! My dad's the one who got the caster out of spec, bumping all sorts of stuff, on the alignment. Good idea to have Safety Connect IF it still works.

Interesting find on our '21 Pacifica van rental. Caused grinding noise that I found posted several times on the Pacifica forums... IMG_20210522_101552664.jpg

It’s 3G, as @Air_Boss kindly mentioned, and yes, the Safety Connect service for certain vehicles will end on October 31, 2022, as described on Toyota’s 3G Network Retirement page. This affects 2010–2016 Prius, 2012–2016 Prius v, and 2012–2015 Prius Plug-in cars, among other Toyota and Lexus models.

I don’t know of a retrofit option with the same features; the aftermarket OnStar mirror was discontinued years ago. Other automakers, such as Subaru, have been able to work around similar problems with a software update; it’s not clear why this wasn’t viable for Toyota.
