What do you mean by "making more efficient choices available?" Who is going to make more efficient choices available?

I'd love to buy an EV, but even though they're "more efficient," that doesn't really make much of an impact on my choice, even though I love efficient vehicles. Then take the majority of drivers who don't care if their SUV or Pickup is less efficient than a suitable alternative and I don't see how more efficient anything is going to help change people's mind.

I guess the problem is efficiency and cost don't always coincide either. I can't afford an EV, even if they're much more efficient than any ICEV. I love EV's. I even tried to make one work for me, but it didn't so I had to end up selling it.

just like always, the politicians didn't think it through.

it's hard to be a person making grand gestures in front of a project, when everyone ignores them and says "hey buddy, how about you get out of the way so we can DO THINGS here ?"

    What EV was it?

I think there needs to be a minimum EV performance spec to be generally an ICE replacement.

A used 2013 Nissan Leaf. The range was not enough, and the charging infrastructure non-existent. We did do some trips (actually a lot of trips; like two times a week) that were more than the range of the car, but we relied mostly on 120V charging. After getting stuck on the highway in the middle of winter @ -13°F that was the end of that.

I think the Leaf would have worked for only around town (work, school, store). But my problem is I was wanting a nicer car and went for the Leaf first before buying a proper long-distance car, like my used 2013 Avalon hybrid. It was kind of weird to have a 2013 Leaf for around town and a 1972 VW Super Beetle and a 1985 VW Golf non-turbo diesel for long distance. But I couldn't afford both a 2013 Leaf and another car like a 2013 Avalon Hybrid. Maybe once I finish paying off the Avalon I'll get a used Leaf again.

in other words, the state is electing actors, teleprompter readers, and the like because if they had at least finished high school Civics they would have known that the Commerce Clause of our Federal Constitution says they don't have power to do that. It's not the fault of Zoolander (male fashion model comedy movie) . It's the fault of the dumb people that put him in office.

    Or ...

... somebody misread and misreported on the original submitted bill. Then didn't update to the modified version that actually passed the Legislature. Then someone else misinterpreted that earlier faulty report. And then it got posted to an enthusiast forum with additional misunderstandings. And so we were led off into the weeds chasing after the wrong goose ...

From the article about the governor's veto, the original bill that didn't pass the legislature "... faced behind the scenes pushback from state Attorney General Bob Ferguson, whose legislative director cautioned in an email that it would face a swift legal challenge in federal court from opponents who would argue the state had exceeded its legal authority under the federal Clean Air Act."
