This. I don't see Sam's posts thanks to the handy-dandy ignore button, so it seemed like a strangely combative set of responses.

 

I tend to not use the forum's ignore button for just that reason, so I won't get thrown off when reading a thread. I've got a kind of internal ignore button that works ok a lot of the time.

If you want to put a kind of constructive spin on it, in a lot of areas of life you do sometimes run into other people kind of like Sam, only usually less so, which makes them a little harder to recognize. Here on PriusChat we get valuable experience that helps to spot them quick.

 

when you come into a conversation with an opinion/theory, and others point out the flaws in your view...
it's up to you to understand the guidance or take personal offense.

either way, the folks that share their experiences already know better.

 

I tried switching to 0W-40 (from 0W-30). The oil consumption went down only very slightly, but the fuel consumption increased slightly, so I switched back to 0W-30. So thicker oil doesn't always help much, but I agree that it's worth a try.

If I lived in a very hot climate, I would be using xW-40.

I think a lot of people don't fully understand the motor oil cold temperature viscosity rating system (the number in front of the "W"). All motor oils are always much thicker than optimal when they are cold. Oils with a lower W rating are just less bad than oils with a higher W rating when it's cold.
