08 Honda Civic Hybrid questions

    Hello,
    I have an 08 Civic Hybrid with 190k miles. The IMA battery was replaced in 2014 at roughly 100k miles. Is it likely that this replacement battery will also fail at some point, and if so how long? I'm not currently seeing any symptoms. Are there any other issues to be aware of with this car? Trying to decide whether to keep it, or to sell it before any issues arise. Thanks.

    Honda updated software to prevent degradation of the hybrid battery, so your replaced battery may last longer than the original one. But over 10 years old car will have other issues I would imagine. My 2008 HCH was handed down to my son, and he managed to total it before seeing 200Kmiles. But up to ~160kmiles, it had no maintenance or repair issues. Yes, I had the IMA battery replaced shortly before the factory warranty expired. If it was not totaled, the car would have been still in running condition. That being said, if you are thinking of replacing it, just check to see what you can get for it. I would not think it is worth that much. Keep driving it until it dies would be the most cost-effective?

    Similar story here: we sold our 06 to our son.

    In his hands, it got a gratis replacement battery, around 200k kms IIRC, and within maybe a year it was “up to its old tricks”, ie: recalibration, with all that entails. I’d add: the swap was done when light/code came up, but it had been recalibrating for YEARS before that.

    That was tolerable, but then the CVT (continuously variable transmission) started sounding bad, around 340k kms. Dealership guesstimated $3k for replacement with salvage CVT, and also found weeping water pump and cracked bushing on an engine mount.

    considering all of the above, plus a front grill AC condenser that was coming apart in great swaths (but still holding pressure), the car was traded soon thereafter for scrap value, $500.
