Given how often you’ve had flats, a spare is probably worth it for you. In my case though, I can barely even remember the last time I had a true flat tire, as opposed to just slow leaks. I think I’ll stick with the tire-repair kit for now at least. (Now watch the stats defy me, and give me a flat tomorrow afternoon!)
im at 11k miles on my 2020 Prime. My tires have been patched twice. For those with slow leaks, maybe its not a leak? I thought I had slow leaks too. Then after some close-up inspection, i found tiny pieces of construction staples lodged into the treads. Staples were hard to spot, unlike nails or screws that have heads. I've never experienced this before but with these thin Toyos. I can't wait to change them out.

That’s not unreasonable. For us at least, it been ... an unfortunate loss of space, but far from a deal-breaker.
the rest of the car is so nice, i wish toyota were making more effort to correct it. i suppose with the slow sales, it isn't worth the investment.
The chance of using the tire repair kit that came with the car was so slim, I tried to sell it on Ebay, but no taker. I have a full-size spare to carry around, but for most around town trips, I do without it in a car.
i once used slime years ago to fix a slow leak; just needed the tool to remove the valve stem. Worked, and the leak never came back. However, the extra goo in the tire eventually dried up years later, and came loose, throwing off the wheel balance. Would it be possible to refill the repair kit bottle with slime off the shelf of a local store?
Hang onto it: you’ll recoup a trivial amount of $’s, and a potential buyer of the car might get picky if it’d missing? or is that item all that’s left??
Yeah, I had kept it in the car when I traded my car. But, if I had sold it, still the car would have traded at the same price. As long as trading, the dealer almost never checks such a thing.
So true. They didn't ask me for mine either nor did they see the nice passenger side door ding that someone left me. Cats out of the bag now.
When I traded in my 2017PP with 2020PP, I forgot to bring the OEM charging cable. The dealer didn't even ask for it. I sold it to someone here on PC needing an extra charging cord.
I have recently had to use the tire repair kit, TWICE! I had one flat, fixed it (allegedly), only to have it fail again two weeks later. This second time, the kit did not inflate the tire properly. I drove it, poorly inflated, to a gas station. Their compressor completely inflated it, so I could get to the tire store.The tire guy thought they didn't clean the stem when they fixed the tore the first time. It seems to be the case,as the tire is holding pressure, now. I took the repair kit back to my Toyota dealer,asking them to check it out.But they had no idea how to do that. My final comment is that it is a lot easier to use the kit, than dealing with the heavy iron of the physical tire rim.
So umm, like a donut tire, the “tire repair kit” is intended to be a temporary repair during which time you shouldn’t drive faster than 50ish MPH, and so forth. Conceptually at least, you’re expected to take it to a tire shop to get it repaired “for realzies” as soon as you can.
I have always assumed that if I inject that slime into my tire that I should be able to drive a few miles to a tire shop, but the tire would now be ruined and have to be replaced. Is that a correct assumption? Incidentally, I picked up a screw a couple of years ago and took the tire to Costco to be repaired. Have had no problem with it since.
I've never used the Toyota tire repair kit. It appears to include an inflator and a bottle of goop. Can it be used without the goop as a just a regular tire inflator? (For example, if you had a really slow leak, or your own tire repair kit, and just needed to pump the tire back up a bit).
Yeah, BlackJack plug repair kit, floor-style bicycle pump AND a temp spare here. the Toyota inflator with goop is a fool’s paradise.
