Seach topic on windshield replacement on Gen4 and PP, you will find many nightmare stories. It is presumed that for making lighter and more fuel-efficient, the windshield glass on both Gen4 and PP are thinner than predecessors and thus prone to chips and cracks. And due to the requirement of re-calibration of the front-facing cameras, it cost more to replace the windshield than predecessors as well. The cost is anywhere from $800 to $1200. If you do not have one, make sure you buy zero deductible glass coverage on your insurance policy. I had my 2017 PP windshield chipped and replaced only 2 weeks after purchasing the car.

Yes this makes sense if your replacing front windshield however I said Front windows.
This makes sense if your tinting your front windshield, however I said "front windows". The windshield already comes with a fair amount of uv protection which is what destroys the interior. It's the side windows that don't have as much. Plus the windshield do to it's curve rejects additional uv and light in general. That being said, I have full coverage and most major carriers give you FREE windshield replacement anyways. So cost wouldn't be a issue besides having to pay again to have it done as far as tint goes. Hope that makes sense.

You said "windshield". But if you are talking about tinting just font side windows, then this would not apply.

Yes this is in regards to someone stating that of you need to get the windshield replaced and replaced tint. However I said just front windows for clarification....

Yeah, if you don't have to tint the front windshield, then there is no worry for the breakage of the front side glasses. In your local, trying to cut down as much solar rays as possible may be important. But, in my climate, I want to get as much sunshine hitting my car as possible to warm up the inside cabin most of the time. I almost never use AC during summer in the car or at my house. The average summer high temp around here doesn't hit even 80F. ;)

Yes, you can be pulled over for a violation of the Vehicle Code. Seeing window tint that is illegal is probable cause.

I know it's more costly but I wish there were more custom mesh shades available. That way you can remove them in the winter when it's dark.

VW Canada and Audi Canada used to offer them as dealer accessories as recent as 2019 but I'm guessing with all the cost cutting, they've dropped a significant number of available accessories (VW anyway. Audi still has a laundry list of them).

Well at 35 in the front it's literally five over. so really it's not a big deal and I've driven well over 100,000 miles in the last several years and never had a problem with it. So I'll take my chances and also stay protected at the process

I just got a 2021 Prime LE for $24,125 out-the-door price at Woburn Toyota. ($29,539 sticker - $5,000 Toyota rebate - $2,496 dealer discount + $1,409 sales tax + ~$650 in dealer fees) Picked it up today. After the $4,500 federal tax credit and $1,500 MA rebate net price will be $18,125. If you have a trade-in, check out Carmax. I was trading in a 2018 Prime. The dealer only offered me $13, 500, but Carmax paid me $17,800 (and it was a quick, hassle-free transaction).

Whoever buys my used 2018 from Carmax will end up paying more for it than I paid for the new 2021.

I would like to Thank @Thebakerman your post convinced me to purchased a new Prime. Went to Culver City was unable to make a deal, ended up in MDR, and walked out with my hand to my rear, they really took me to town.

Thanks for the input, that makes sense.

It is just one data point. I am on the hunt for 4k dealer markdown off MSRP in New England that we have similar data for in the mid-atlantic area.Truecar is giving me deals of 200 dealer markdown (and my email and phone are constantly getting flooded now). Those offers are a joke and the dealers websites show markdowns of 900. Truecar is way off here.

just checked carmax and they qouted me the same $17800 for my 2017 premium I got this past February. That would basically cover the full cost I paid for the car, including taxes and fees, just $75 out of pocket to drive it around for a few months lol.

What would I be missing going to an Le? I know I would gain android auto which I liked a lot in my last car and I hate the toyota nav. But would miss leather seats, have a dog. But if I go up to xle I don't think it would be worth the extra money, especially since Rhode island doesn't seem to have any state incentive. Need to do some research. Paid cash for mine since I was in the process of closing on a house but that's done with now. Are these discounts contingent on financing? Do the rebates go away if you do the 0 % financing?
