Good question since packs self discharge just sitting around and storing in a discharged state can ruin them.

Should be enough time to learn how to swap them out without too much trouble. It's always nice to have a backup. No one ever said a pack needed to be stored unused for years, or perhaps I missed something while reading.

I suppose they could swap out older for newer to ‘exercise’ it to keep it healthy, and then swap back to the older one. Back and forth with swapping batteries is a bit of work for sure.

Agreed, it's a big heavy pack, not a fun project to swap back and forth all the time. But since he has the spare ( not many think ahead like that ), it's way easier to dismantal and/or get to know about with a spare than trying to do everything all at once with one pack.
Take apart the cars interior, Pull that heavy beast of a pack, get the pack on a bench, try to take in everything associated with the pack internals, dismantle the pack if needed, reassemble the pack if needed, reinstall the pack, (edit put interior back together), cross fingers and hope it's all done right.....
(edit2 find a cherry picker somewhere, to hoist that pack out of the car)

I still can't figure out why I can get about 2 more driving miles when I disconnect the 12 volt momentarily and then the reconnect it, indicated miles go to 11.8 to 13.8 after full charge. I can actually drive the extra miles. It takes about 2 months to drop 2 miles, 1 month for 1 mile.

Maybe the algorithm they use has some calculation leakage related to how they calculate the 22% low and 80% high, and over time that causes a more conservative mileage estimate. The RESET, clears the memory and leakage, and we get to start all over. Still seems to give merit to the 12V Reset as a maintenance ‘thing’ for us users ... (y)

Its not just the milage estimate indicated but the actual driven milage

I can't write that I know why you're getting an extra 2 EV miles (estimated and actual) after disconnecting the 12 volt. It's good data to save though.

If you ever get the Estimated EV range above 14 miles, than disconnect the 12 volt that might help clear up any possible misconceptions about what the car is actually doing.

Concerning the spare traction pack. it might be possible to switch/pull an individual bank of cells without having to pull the entire pack.

Be careful and I'd recommend getting a techstream subscription before attempting the disassembly.

Perhaps like the engine settings it takes a while to learn your battery condition and getting the extra miles is actually shortening the remaining life on that old battery.

Full charge this morning was 10.8 miles. Disconnected the ground 12 volt and reattached and then it charged to 13.7. I am selling this car because I bought a 2017 Prime Advanced. I drove it yesterday 28 miles and still some battery left.

Some other Prime drivers might be jealous you're getting 28 + EV at this time of year when a lot of us are struggling to get EV miles back up this spring. Beware when temps start to get high out your way and try to keep the pack as cool as possible.

Congrats!! I moved from PiP to Prime two years ago. What an improvement!!!

Not me. I'm usually getting 30-32 miles, mostly at 45-60 mph. :D

No worries, Jerry... your Florida governor is doing his best to (umm) “cleanse” your state from over population. No mask, no vax, no worry!

Yeah, it's sad. We all died several months ago. There are no survivors in FL now.

Where did you get that BS from? Turn off CNN & MSNBC, please. This is absolutely untrue. Masks are still required in every store, public building, etc. that I've been in. Medical people & first responders were the first eligible and that's pretty well covered and has been for a while. As of yesterday, everyone over 50 is eligible for the vaccine. So are teachers and the especially vulnerable. We got our second dose a while back. At a Sam's Club pharmacy, btw. As of a week ago, Publix pharmacies alone had vaccinated over a million people. They are vaccinating people around here at racetracks, pharmacies, shopping malls, you name it. About 5 million have been vaccinated so far. http://ww11.doh.state.fl.us/comm/_partners/covid19_report_archive/vaccine/vaccine_report_latest.pdf Since they just opened it up to younger people yesterday, I think the dose rates will go higher as long as the Feds keep letting the stuff into a state that Biden doesn't like.

And average or better than average COVID numbers. FL is 27th in deaths per 100k people at 153. How is that worse than New Jersey at 272 per 100k people or New York at 222? Connecticut is 220 by the way. COVID-19 death rates by state: March 23
Thanks, but I think DeSantis is doing just fine.

Besides, let's leave the political garbage out of a conversation about a battery.
