I’ve been looking to buy an older Prius 8.5-9k. I’ve weeded through and have spoken to a lot of sellers but I’m finding it difficult to schedule to a PPI with a local Toyota dealership. Some sellers do me the favor of backing off outright and that’s fine, The others agree and have later backed out or end up being agreeable because they’re scamming or title floating. Since this would be my first hybrid I feel a little lost and worried I’d look over a detail I’m unfamiliar with versus gasoline run cars. A PPI is necessary to avoid a car sized paperweight. But how??? Is it normally this hard? Is my approach wrong? I’ve been get the details and carfax, trying to schedule a time to view and test drive, and ask if a PPI would be okay. In my mind the order of events is: meet at dealership, visual inspection, test drive, PPI, buy if all goes well. Please help me and tell me if I’m doing it wrong. Is it me or them? :/
It's them. You're doing the right steps (and in the process, you've filtered out those crooked sellers). Maybe if you're trying to do all of that in a day, it might be a bit daunting for the seller.
welcome! you should do a little research here on what you're looking for. prius are complicated, and expensive to repair. albeit very reliable on the whole. but this place is littered with people who don't diy, have a problem, can't find a good hybrid mech and end up taking it in the shorts at a dealership repair shop. all the best!
Thank you both for the welcome and making me feel better. I was initially planning on having it all happen in one swoop. So maybe I’m partially at fault. It’s difficult to coordinate times and rides for me and I’d think the seller would want the security of having the car sold without waiting for a PPI to get paid. So many people flake or ghost that I thought it was the most swift for all. I may have to split it up and see where that gets me. Bisco you pretty much summed up question number two on the roster-a good hybrid mechanic in Chicago. I appreciate the word of advise.
Where you live......it is normally that hard. Scammers are abundant in big cities. I used to live near there. Get OUTSIDE of the metro area......like south of Joliet or west of Oakbrook. OR reconsider your plan. A brand new base model Corolla can be had for about $12K. What do you expect to pay for a used hybrid ??
