Full tank range difference

    I had 2 bars on my gas indicators 2days ago then filled up the tank and got me a range of 694kms. Yesterday after a go around from station-work-station it only got me 579 after filling the tank again. It didnt vimpel up again. Any idea why?

    Assuming it's the same trip computer used on the regular Gen 3, it typically uses your recent fuel economy to estimate the range. Perhaps, the shorter distance before you refuelled netted a poorer than average fuel economy, thus the computer adjusted its range calculation.

    Hi again!

    I just filled up my tank and this is what I got.

    Cruise range: 718kms / 446miles
    Kms/L: 3.9kms/100L or 63MPG

    (you mean 3.7L/100km? Not 3.9km/100L?)

    Yep kind of weird. Had 694kms then drove it vice versa from home to work then when I filled up the tank again instead of getting more mileage it went down to 579..

    Hi guys and girls, I'm still new to the large prius.
    My fuel economy on the stock parts still remains at around 19-21km/l. I reset the economy and mileage after every fill up. Eco mode did not do significantly better than normal mode and I have yet to try power mode all the way.
    Is 19-21km/l a good baseline to start adding engine performance parts? I would like to 1st add a K&N filter for better air flow and also soon to install more performance parts such as the Red Bullet solenoid.
    Firstly I want to know that I'm running the car up to par, we use to own a Prius C and the fuel costs is really good 26-27km/l. A little disappointing to see sub 20s for the prius V...

    That’s 5L/100km or 47 US mpg? That’s above average. The EPA rated it at 42mpg combined IIRC.

    You were also significantly beating the EPA with the Prius c. The Prius v has a shorter final gear ratio to help offset the weight and have decent acceleration so that is one factor into the higher fuel consumption over the Prius c.

    The PV really gets a good punch when I floor it. The PC on the other hand was really good on the gas but flooring it at speeds above 80km/h you don't feel as much push as the PV. I guess you gain some and lose some in this case.
    Gain more power with PV and larger room within the cabin but lose out on the fuel economy.
    It is definitely a plus for these hybrid on spontaneous acceleration vs traditional combustion and geared vehicles. The electric motor response is almost spontaneous vs the combustion engine which needs to spool up v and drop a gear.

    47 mpg is definitely above average.

    my V is pretty solidly floating 39.3-39.5 mpg after 1k miles in normal mode but the vast majority of my miles are highway commute no traffic 70 mph up and down two decent hills and often in the afternoon drive home against wind with some stop and go city driving mixed in but only about 10-15% of the miles.

    best so far on a long trip I saw was mostly flat land trip 75 mph fully loaded down car (camping trip) 41.5 mpg round trip (about 240 miles)

    i never drive in heavy stop and go traffic or city for enough length of time to gauge what it might do in that but that is where hybrids usually shine and one could get 45+

    @dmax11 that’s pretty good. It’s rated at 44/40/42 city/hwy/combined.

    I have gotten higher in the Prius v but that’s in California temperatures and a short test loop (bit of suburban and highway).

    I would not recommend the K&N. The Prius is not the 3.5 TT Ecoboost that gains 30 hp because you added a free flowing air filter. The increase in airflow will likely just increase injector on time (increasing fuel consumption) to keep the exhaust 02 levels where the computer is programmed to keep them. Things like new plugs, coils, cleaning the EGR system, changing 02 sensors will be more beneficial, especially if your V has a lot of “experience”.

    Cleaning the EGR sounds like to do list for all Gen 3 Prius which in this case includes the Prius V.
    I do experience very light cold start wobbles every now and then which makes me believe the EGR might need a TLC.
    The car only has 50k km on the clock with the baby on the way and lots of baby spending I will wait on the plugs and coils for a later time.
    Reading up on EGR cleaning!

    So, I just did a short 136kms drive.. Before I started I filled my tank for 25ltrs and gave me 780kms range. When I arrived home, I still had 650kms range and just 1 bar taken out from the gas indicator. So, I filled it again at the same gas station and I was only able to fill the tank with only 2 liters! 2 liters! Then, the range didnt move.. Stayed at 650kms.

    I started with 68,363kms and when I arrived at the gas station I was at 68,499.

    Odometer: 68499 - 68363 = 136kms.
    Range: 780-650 = 130kms

    Weird..

    2 liters isn't enough to reset the Range display, so it just keeps counting down from where it was.

    Over here in the U.S., it takes about 2 gallons of added fuel to reliably turn off the "low fuel" warning. I suspect the amount to reset the DTE or Range display estimate is very likely the same. Small quantities of added fuel are indistinguishable from ordinary sloshing, so are likely filtered out by the software.

    As for being able to add just 2 liters, did you use the very same pump, with the car parked at the very same slope angle?

    To better sum up my question, of the 136kms that I have driven, it only consumed 2ltrs? I couldn't pump more. The pump would just stop. It won´t fill. Pumped it 4 or 5 times but it will just stop so I was afraid to continue as to maybe it will just overfill.

    With what happened, I wouldnt be more happier but just kind of weird..

    I went to the same gas station and used same pump. And the gas station was flat.
