X-Prologue.
So this is a concept car (Prologue) of what Toyota sees as the Model X. That will confuse @hill LOL

 

I'm guessing the car will be as polarizing in appearance as the Prius and Mirai. If the emblem placement is correct, it's a narrow car. it being electric is a guess at this point. The press release doesn't use the e-word.

Looks like they’ve modernized the stylized “X” logo from the Mark X sedan and Mark X Zio MPV. Also used on the 2004-06 xB/xA.

 

No Toyota logo??

EDIT: Actually the teaser picture clearly shows the Toyota logo so the full photo is likely false.

 

This presentation is for european countries. So, for now, this x-prologue is EU only.

Developed with Suburu and using these AWD. That will likely hurt efficiency. I see they are again saying they plan on electrification of their trucks. At one time they said there would be a Hybrid Tundra after they finished developing the HyCam. That never happened.

O. A separate not my coworker told me the 2021 Sienna minivan is only available as a Hybrid.

This looks like a competitor to the tesla model Y and VW ID.4 with a length between a rav4 and highlander.

The Tesla model Y shows that you can build electric AWD with great AWD performance without much of a penalty. The long range AWD model Y only 3.2% less efficient than the standard range rwd model Y for both the added battery weight and extra motor.

Toyota should be able to do this too. If Toyota gets the software right this should sell very well. They say mid 2022, but my guess is that is for china or japan, and it won't reach the us until end of 2022 or more likely 2023 or 2024.

On trucks they see the writing on the wall. The electric truck market will be big. They haven't provided any details which means it is likely years away from production. I would like to see Toyota make a phev tacoma. It could use similar power layout as the rav4 prime. Really the toyota hsd standard highbrid system is not a good fit for a truck like the tundra but add a bigger battery and you can get the torque up to the right levels with motors.

Yes sienna has gone with the fwd 2.5L camry hybrid system with optional electric awd, against their V6 fwd minivan competitors. This gives them less power, but not that much less at a big increase in fuel efficiency (36mpg epa versus 22 mpg on the old V6). It seems like a great choice as low speed acceleration is probably the same, and its fast enough passing on the highway.
