2013 Prius C with 98,000 miles on it. Owned since 68,000.
I've noticed a rumble in the engine or transmission when going about 40MPH. Goes away as soon as I let off the gas and the engine switches off. Very consistent. I have gotten to the point where I know I'm going 40mph on main road near me that's speed limited to 40mph just by hearing the sound(guess that helps me avoid a speeding ticket, lol)
Any idea what might cause it? It only seems to happen at 40mph. Should I get the transmission fluid replaced maybe? I'm not sure if it was done previously.

Is the rumble coming with a vibration, or just a change in sound?

And when you hear the sound do you have the sense if it's coming from left or right side of the engine compartment?

Lastly, have you had any issue with warning lights or loss in MPG?

Seems to be more of a sound, but I can feel it when it happens, so I guess more of a vibration.
I don't have any sense of where it's coming from, it's a tiny engine(99hp, I consider it a glorified lawn mower engine)
No warning lights, but I have noticed my MPG isn't quite as good as it was when I got the car. I started at 50-55MPG, was getting 40-45MPG, so I replaced the spark plugs not too long ago and it didn't seem to make much of an improvement, as I'm still sitting around 42MPG average. The sound was happening before the spark plug replacement.

Yes, but it doesn't cause issues like many EGR circuits do. It's so extremely rare most people don't even know it has one.
