Check Hybrid System after 12 volt battery replacement

    I left my 2015 Prius C sitting too long and couldn’t start it the other day. I picked up a new 12 volt battery and replaced it but now when I start the car I am getting the CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM STOP VEHICLE message. Replacing the battery was pretty straightforward it did I miss a step somewhere?

    Did you fully clip down your Orange safety plug? That's usually the problem... Check out a YouTube video on how it's done to be certain.

    Appears to be another case of us carrying on the conversation while the OP sits in the moderation queue.

    There's no particular reason to go check the orange interlock switch if you never fussed with it in the first place. Poster saying it's "usually the problem" may have read your post quickly and thought you replaced the other battery.

    Did you fully charge the new 12 V battery before installing it ?
    Many come half charged or less.

    Still getting the hybrid system warning. I made an appointment to take the car into the dealership this week to have them take a look at it.

    Don't wast your time with a Toyota Stealership... Find an honest mechanic or friend to help you... The dealership will give you an outrageous repair price and then try to sell you a new car with a "generous" trad-in offer, which isn't generous at all.

    Good advice.......NOT.
    While many dealership service departments seem pretty incompetent, independent shops and "friends" tend to know even less.

    Update. Dealership looked at the car and said the Hybrid System Warning registered code P0B47 and is due to a bad battery smart unit ECU. The actual terms used on the estimate was “Miscellaneous Body Electrical Repair- Battery Smart Unit ECU p0b47 code present”. However they are stating this is not covered under the hybrid system warranty. Waiting for a call from the service manager for more details and explanation.

    Battery ECU from a Toyota Stealership is $800 and it takes an hour to put in but knowing those crooks they'll probably claim it's a 3 hour job at or above $100 an hour.

    Meanwhile in the real world you can buy a used battery ECU for less than a hundred dollars online and an honest mechanic who doesn't have the costs related to running a huge shop will charge $40 to $80 for one hour of labor to do the job.

    Shouldn’t this wouldn’t be covered under the hybrid components warranty?

    I would think it would have to be covered. It wouldn't have a battery ECU if it didn't have a battery.

    What you or I or anybody else thinks doesn't matter.
    You need to look at a copy of the warranty that covered your model when it was new.
    The "warranty help line" at Toyota should be able to supply that to you.
