We're looking to replace our current Prius v with much lower mileage vehicle. We say two good options in a 2018 Rav4 Hybrid with 13k miles and a 2017 Prius v with 44k miles similarly equiped. My question is if anyone had any opinions on which might be a better option from a mechanical stand point? If there are issues worth consider that would make one more favorable over the other? I'm still looking through some of the Rav4 hybrid info at this point as well as if there are any noticeable changes with the 2017 verse the 2013 v.
both great cars, i would go with the one that best suits your needs. v has the egr/ head gasket issue, rav 4 has the fueling issue, but there may be a remedy.
You upgrade to a much better 2.5L with the 2018 Rav4 hybrid while the 2017 Prius v remains the problematic 3rd gen 1.8L. 2018 Rav 4 hybrids also had awd. The 2017 v had better pistons and rings than the 2013 v and better crash tests. The 2018 Rav4 hybrid was the last year before the 2019 redesign. All 2018 Rav4s hybrids had automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist and automatic high beams. Higher trims had Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alerts standard. Blind spot was optional on the Rav4 XLE hybrid.

Unless you need AWD, I’d do with the V because the 1st gen rav4 hybrid isn’t super efficient. I would get the v and add a oil catch can like many do, to slow, or maybe prevent the egr system clogging up, and change the engine coolant at 50k since its 4 years old. Just my two cents, take it or leave it! Like both of them, wishing you the best.
