looking for Brake booster assembly 47050-47070

Not sure how they do wrecking yards in Germany... But in the US they put the wrecked cars on a big lot and allow people to remove parts to buy. What's great about this is you get to practice removal on a wrecked car so you're less likely to damage you own car.

 

I can't help you sourcing one, but we've had a couple problems with the wrong boosters from our local wrecking yard. Sometimes they'd send one from another model (Camry, Rav4, etc) and it would not fit or work, so I'd be careful and research before spending money on one that might not fit.

 

Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalog identifies sixteen versions of the brake booster with master cylinder assembly for use on third-generation Prius cars. The choice depends on the car’s production date, destination market, wheel size, and driver’s position (left-hand drive or right-hand drive).

Keep in mind that this assembly contains not only the brake actuator, with its master cylinder, solenoid valves, and relays, but also the skid control ECU (the brake system computer) and its software. If the software doesn’t match that of the car’s other computers, diagnostic trouble code C1203/95 may be stored.

The catalog gives the service part numbers, as you’d use to order a replacement from a Toyota dealer, and an identifying “MARK,” which is printed in a specified location on the assembly itself, shown in the illustration for catalog Figure 47-02, Brake Master Cylinder. There are other numbers stamped or engraved on the assemblies, and sellers sometimes mistake these for the assembly part number or “MARK,” but I wouldn’t rely on them.

The part number you mentioned (47050-47070), for which the “MARK” is 47210-47150, has been superseded by part number 47050-47150, for which the “MARK” is 47210-47320. An assembly with any of these numbers should work with a left-hand drive Prius car that was built in June 2010 or earlier for sale in Europe.

Part number 47050-47150 is also sold in the U.S., where its list price is $693.05, and some dealers offer them online for $550 or less. Toyota dealers in the U.S. aren’t allowed to sell directly for export, and I don’t know why the price in Europe is so much higher.

 

Wasn’t there also something tricky about the label orientation: later, revised components had label affixed 90 deg from older ones. That’s on the lower component with the two “can” shapes, the name has “pump” in it IIRC.

That’s a completely different part, the brake booster pump assembly, part number 47070-47060 for all third-generation Prius cars.

 

I had a 50/50 chance.

 

Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalog doesn’t list 47070-47050 at all, not even as a superseded part.

Toyota’s photos of the brake booster pump assembly used on certain Prius cars, on page 8 (PDF page 21) of the work instructions for U.S. safety recall D0H (PDF) (as @Mendel Leisk kindly linked above), show “47070-47050” marked on the base castings of both recalled and acceptable parts. Perhaps the -47050 number is a production part number for the assembly or one of its components, and third-party sellers have mistaken it for the -47060 service part number.

The main thing to check is that you don’t get a recalled part, with the yellow label oriented horizontally.

Hello. My car is a 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In in Canada (left hand drive) and I'm told I need part 47210L but my mechanic can't find it anywhere used. It's $5400 new in Canadian $.
