    Ironic, isn't it, that highway mileage is better with a gasser and worse with a Prime. ;)

    Don't all PRIUS and other Toyota hybrid have better mpg for city than hwy?

    Yup. But the Prime is a mpg better on the highway than the other 4th gen other than the ECO. But then again, it 3 mpg better in the city according to the EPA stats at Toyota's website.

    That is awesome. My 2017 PRIME 90K, got 425 DTE after fill-up. That is reduced 100 Miles from the 1st time bought the car 3 years ago..

    Only if you run in HV mode in the city. Because my Prime is EV mode in the city and the engine only runs on road trips (or in the rare occasion I couldn't find an available public charging station... lots of EVs/PHEVs in my area), then the mpg numbers and thus the DTE will be based on highway cruising.

    Yeah, I know what you are saying. But what I was pointing out was the fact that all PRIUS have better mpg for city than on hwy.

    It might be better to write that as "better EPA MPG", because most of us know that "real world MPG" is different, and frequently doesn't follow that EPA inversion.

    And unlike most cars, Prius is usually better than EPA since apparently the EPA tests don't factor in the advantages available with a hybrid if you drive intelligently.

    Actually, all cars do better than EPA when driven intelligently. They can get CAFE-grade numbers, because that is what the (expert) test drivers achieved on the CAFE-cycle dynamometer tests.

    But since most Americans don't drive like that, or in those conditions, the EPA has repeatedly needed to mark down its scale from CAFE to something closer to what ordinary drivers really get. And with rising speed limits, and more powerful engines encouraging more aggressive driving styles, the ratio between "real-world" and CAFE MPGs is a continually down-moving target.

    UPDATE on my 2020 PRIME. I have done two fill-up since I purchased the car back in Feb. Weather is getting warmer. The DTE range is getting longer now. But with the COVID-19 stay-at-home, I have been doing much less frequent drives, and I have been using more HV than EV to conserve electricity usage. The gas is still below $2/gal. It costs ~40% more to drive on EV than on HV at current gas and electricity rates.

    8.159gal filled at $1.869/gal on 3/20/2020
    HV mpg estimate for the last tank: 494/9.3 = 53.1 mpg

    An extreme example --- and an additional data point on DTE:
    I just filled up. First time in over five months. New DTE is 560 miles. Actual distance driven on this last tank was 3,315 miles. So, it's pretty clear that HV miles are not a factor. LOL!
    Previous DTEs were from 531-550 miles. Each tank, since I started tracking DTE has been higher than the one before. So far.

    56.8 mpg is for the 740 miles cumulative drives since my last fill-up in July for all in town short-range drives to stretch the EV range.
    58.1 mpg is for the 470 miles mostly on highway drive all on HV mode at ~70mph.

    The mpg will decline from now on until it's warm again in the spring.
