That sounds like a decent deal. Without going to a dealer and haggling I only managed a $2100 dealer discount this time around, but the dealer also had the $1000 TMS Boston discount, so it was effectively $3000+$1000 = $4000 in rebates, so if your dealer didn't have that then it just about evens out.

 

Okay, here's the usual year-end edition of buy the latest model year Prius Prime Limited (2021):
(NH resident, no tax)

MSRP: $35,164, classic metallic silver, all weather mats

Rebate Total: $5,750 ($3,000 TFS Cash, $1,000 Boston Bonus Cash, $1,000 College Grad, $750 Uber Incentive), financed w/ TFS @ standard rates, will refinance later on, maybe with NFCU if they allow me to again with the $200 bonus, ha!)

Dealer Discount: $2,100
Documentation Fee: $495
OTD Price: $27,809

As a separate transaction via Carvana, sold the 2020 Prime for $23,983 -- they came to my residence, I signed a few papers so they could get the title after they paid off the refinanced loan, and they even had (due to COVID) fee free instant deposits. Literally the minute after he initiated payment I already had the money in my back account! They put the car in their tow truck and drove away.

After the tax rebate, it's a net gain of $676. xD, maybe somewhere around $400 net gain if I count registration transfer + state inspection.

Let's see if the rebates last yet another year! Look forward to seeing the improved TSS 2.0 when I take delivery tomorrow morning!

 

Since most are doing it too.. if we do factor in the $4,500 Fed tax credit then:

$28,998 - $4,500 - $930 (negotiating) - $500 (PA DEPA) = $23,068....

 

Why did you trade in the WRX?

Why did I trade it in? I was tired of spending $50 to fill the tank. It required premium too.

I bought it for the AWD, and last winter we got less than 4 inches of snow the ENTIRE season in this part of the Northeast. I even dropped over $1k on wheels/snow tires, and not once did we get anything significant.

Trust me.. I do regret it often. It was a lot fun. Didn’t have nearly the safety and tech stuff my Prime has, but it was fun w/ the 6MT - and that mid range boost rush was addictive.

Included pics. It was the silver base model, actually a little less $ than the Prime. The WRX gas mileage was like 21-24 city, maybe 29-30 highway if I drove conservatively. Around here we mostly have 87, 89, or 93 octane. So although it required at least 91 octane, I ended up usually having to get 93.

This was before fuel prices dropped from the virus. I was just tired of spending $100+ a week for commuting, and the Prime sounded like a great idea. Did the math and realized how much I could save if I charged it every night.

I wish I could have both.

 

Sorry, this was my first post - I forgot to mention this was in Canadian dollars. It sounds like it's a good time to be shopping for a Prime; here in Canada, I see Toyota pushing sales for Primes a lot - they're always at the top of Toyota advertisements and the 2020 models show a $3571 "Customer Incentive" factored in.

For fellow Canadians, I'd say IMO now is the time to pull the trigger on a Prime, especially if you're okay with 2020 models (especially with the 5th seat and CarPlay now in for the 2020s). It's only my 2nd time buying new and I've never paid that much ($9K) below MSRP. (My 1st new car I paid only $200 under MSRP and thought I had a good deal! )

 

So I read that the best time to buy a new car is December. Due to personal circumstances, I can only purchase my Prius Prime mid-late January, also after the current Toyota incentives expire on 4 Jan. Not a question, more of a this-sucks - is there a silver lining or am I just unlucky lol?

 

So what do you guys this Toyato rebate will be January 5th?3500?4000?

What are the accessories for $2,015? That doesn't sound like a good deal, try to get quotes from other dealers in the area.

 

They said an alarm system and a paint coating. I tried to say i dont want that option but thet said the cars already have them installed.

 

Great deals at the dealer and Carvana. Was the 2020 Prime, a Limited as well or an XLE?

 

May I ask what was the dealer offer for your 2020 Limited trade-in? Since MA allows a trade-in tax exemption, for the separate sales to be beneficial to a buyer, Carvana had to offer you at least 6.25% more than the dealer you purchased the new 2021 PP form.
EDIT: Oh, I missed your comment on being NH resident. Yeah, No tax complication.

I am in process of selling my 2020 PP through Carvana. They offered me over $2000 more than the offer I got from a dealer where I was thinking of purchasing a new Leaf. But I also found another dealer who is offering very close to the Carvana. The only thing is that the dealer is a bit too far. It is out of the EV range of the Leaf. I can't drive back a new Leaf if I purchased it there.

BTW, if I just sell my 2020 PP via Carvana, and do not buy a new car. It will be ~$4K in profit. I am seriously considering this option for now. We have another car, and I am not driving at all these days. I will have more time to shop around if and when I go back to my daily commuting routine.

Thoughts on the price considering it is end of year? Any room to get down further? No hard negotiating to this point. There are a few dealers all close to this out-the-door price with their first response. Is that an indication that I'm already close to the bottom? Thanks!

 

I have an offer for a 2021 LE ($29,474 MSRP) in California for $26,855 OTD. Do you think I can do better? I'm tempted to get a Chevy Bolt for a similar OTD price but that doesn't qualify for the federal rebate and I'm worried the slow DC charging could be annoying on road trips.

 

Dont forget to ask them to take off $1500 california clean fuel reward.

 

Great reminder. I just checked and $1500 is the max depending on vehicle type. Looks like the Prime is $900.11.

 

Both were Limited, basically just 'renewed' the free maintenance and gained the TSS 2.0 features. As far as I can tell, pretty much everything else is the same. It seems to support Entune through the Toyota app on the 11.6" screen, but the app seems very buggy, no surprise that there are so many negative comments on the Google Play store. At any rate the only app that was worth it on there before was Pandora and they got rid of it. It's annoying they still don't have Android Auto support, but I also didn't want to lose the safety features to gain that.

 

$4k in profit just selling it is impressive! Granted in that situation you probably would have to report the gains in your taxes, but very decent nonetheless. Yes, I'm lucky I was able to separate the buying and selling transactions with no tax repercussions given i'm in NH.

Dealer was the same as last year, well, I bought it from IRA Tewksbury, but they pulled it from IRA Danvers location since they share inventory. May have been able to get a better deal going to Danvers directly, but didn't want to deal with that. They only allow up to $2500 in credit card funding though. I think Woburn will allow $5k in CC funding, but they seemed reluctant to match/beat the deal unless I went in person and haggled there (no thanks). I did have to go in person to do the credit card funding to Tewksbury, just because they wouldn't take the # over the phone and wanted it to be a card present (chip) transaction -- don't blame them there I guess.
