States with decelerating new cases have become more numerous since my post #3250. Good news.

US states outline COVID decreasing dec 23.png

No longer restricted to upper Midwest. I gave PA a not-so-green color because it's going down is very few days long. Don't flip again.

Since these are 14 day moving averages, being green here indicates lack of a Thanksgiving bump. I found that to occur in CA, but others states surely bumped. Requires working through the data.

Min thing now is to not have a Christmas bump. Don't make the greens red, OK?

States with <40 thousand total are not listed here. But they are awfully few in number.

It is very likely known exactly where on spike protein the new strain differs. Every vaccine designer knows if that chance will make them miss the target. None of them are saying its a problem. We surely hope the implication is no problem.

Elsewhere I've read of previous small tweeks in this virus, numbering in the thousands..

Hey, ain't that also the stuff that's kind of a wonder substance for repair of nerve damage?

Sad news if that's a source of bad reactions....

Yeah, I had to take PEG for my colonoscopy... Tasted better than valium. Hard to believe a widely used substance as PEG can cause such severe reactions to some. But peanuts can do the same thing to many. So, I guess it would be entirely possible.

Various news sources also noticed this yesterday:

US deaths in 2020 top 3 million, by far most ever counted

    U.S. deaths in 2020 top 3 million

"NEW YORK (AP) — This is the deadliest year in U.S. history, with deaths expected to top 3 million for the first time — due mainly to the coronavirus pandemic.

Final mortality data for this year will not be available for months. But preliminary numbers suggest that the United States is on track to see more than 3.2 million deaths this year, or at least 400,000 more than in 2019.

U.S. deaths increase most years, so some annual rise in fatalities is expected. But the 2020 numbers amount to a jump of about 15%, and could go higher once all the deaths from this month are counted.

That would mark the largest single-year percentage leap since 1918, when tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers died in World War I and hundreds of thousands of Americans died in a flu pandemic. Deaths rose 46% that year, compared with 1917. ..."

This on-line item is more than two months old, but I didn't notice until the hardcopy arrived this week. I hope these graphs help put to bed the earlier zombie myth that Covid deaths were mostly replacing other deaths, not changing the overall all-cause death rate very much.

What exactly is great news ?
And what are you planning to get early next year ??

P.S. Your profile says you have a 2019 C. I thought '17 was the last model year available in the US.

Disappointing to see a big heading suggest it "became" exponential in April, having already seen that exponential-ness was plainly visible in a full month of published numbers from late February right through to the date in late March when roughly half the US population was under distancing orders and the growth rate slackened some.

i picked up a cold while isolating. the only place i go when leaving the yard is for a walk everyday. not many people around, and i avoid them by 10-20 feet when someone is nearby.
shows you how easily these corona viruses spread in the air.

Are you 100% certain that's just a common cold you picked up?

It is more like April being the month that growth fell off the exponential path.

But "exponential" is one of those words I generally expect to be misused in public far more often than it is used correctly.

I got my first shot (Pfizer) on Sunday. Couldn't sleep at all that first night for some reason.

I don't see insomnia as one of the vaccine side effects though.
