Thanks for the link to an article written March 20, 2020 when speculation on how COVID would affect Tesla's demand and car delivery was wild.

    quote from the article:

The automaker’s North American retail and delivery team has an incredible ability to deliver most of those inventory vehicles in just a few weeks at the end of each quarter. However, it is going to be an issue this quarter since Tesla is forced to stop or significantly reduce its operations in many North American markets due to the coronavirus.

As it turns out -- how accurate was that speculation? Tesla (lack of ) a big inventory wasn't that big of a deal, IMO.
(Hint: Tesla stock is about 4x what it was back then)

Back to the original topic that you sidestepped...what is Tesla's level of inventory compared to the rest if the industry?

If that dip in the market hadn't occurred, the buying opportunity would have completely passed us by. That was one thankful opportunity brought about by a nasty virus .... just like it helped as a buying opportunity for Home Depot stock, Lowe's stock, Netflix stock Etc. Carpe diem!

You left this out of the article “With new vehicles coming to inventory next month, it might be a while before Tesla goes back to its usual low inventory business model.”

Why rely on outdated speculation? The real question I posed is how Tesla compares to the industry which you continue to evade.
    Why is that?

In any case what actually happened in Q3 is:

In terms of days of sales, new vehicle inventory declined further in Q3 as we continue to improve our delivery efficiency.

the question has been asked & answered previously, in at least a couple threads. The answer relates back to hurt feelings over people knowing way too much about the downside of hydrogen cars. "Striking back" - anyway possible to deflect. What people in the know apparently have failed to communicate is not about trying to hurt feelings of their proponents. That topic is about the stark realities already discussed, & there's no need to bring them up here, which would just hurt feelings more.
In a way, that ½year old article brought up by the op makes a great point. In short, it takes a worldwide pandemic & lockdown just to slow down the uber success /growth of electric cars.

He's asking for the days on lot figure. It is the average time a car is in inventory before being sold.

Don’t know. A sale is a sale if it happens within the year of production.

It is an important metric to car companies, because it is a measure of demand for a model. Should they keep making a model if there are ones sitting on dealer lots for a year.

This indicates that spill over is still taking place today with excessive inventory. Read it again.

And yet Tesla still seems to have the lowest days on lot than any car maker.

Pre orders may have something to do with it.

All the Model 3 preorders have been filled, and these day on lot numbers exist for each model.

All well and good, but Tesla is going to be caught off guard by many up incoming Chinese BEVs.

How many of those BEVs are sold globally?

More importantly, how is more BEV choices a good thing for hydrogen cars?

The competition is just getting started, sales of Chinese BEV are way ahead against Tesla in China. Why do you think Tesla shopped Chinese made Tesla’s to Europe. Too much inventory and not enough buyers in China. Mirai is also just getting started and so is hydrogen for the entire industry.
