Happy 245th Birthday to our nation's premiere first-responders!! Back in the 'long ago' you used to be able to tell the "really special" folks by who was guarding the piers, buildings, air strips, etc. Some folks used rent-a-cops. Others used people on their command's poop list. Some squids were guarded by Shore Patrol or MAAs. We always had Marines..... The running joke was that the Army used German Shepherds......but that's because they were older, and got first pick! My personal thanks and warmest regards to everyone who earned the right to wear the Globe and Anchor!! THANKS for the many peaceful nights rest.
I wasn't quite Gomer Pyle (though my superiors might disagree) and I admittedly did not much enjoy the time I spent with "Uncle," but I truly do respect all the branches of the armed services and those whom serve. Bonus points to those that can name the man above -- whom was actually rejected by the Marines and went on to serve as a sergeant in the U.S. Army (which may explain why he has a near perfect salute).
I second this sentiment Tomorrow being Veterans Day I would thank all Veterans and Service Branches being there for our country and for the many sacrifices the Veterans and their families have made for our country.
A former Marine: I learned valuable lessons that continue to apply today. I did not need a 'second kick of the mule'. Bob Wilson A former E5 who never looked back. If I ever have to go into combat, I only want to be with fellow Marines.
