Timeless?? They are all looking old. Time for a facelift and some exciting colors.

Ten years ago, I drove a Prius. As soon as the PiP came out, I bought one. After that, it was a Volt, Spark EV and a Bolt. I put up a Level 2 charger over eight years ago and have been filling up at home ever since. The last time I was at a gas station was for topping off the Volt and that was a year ago this month.

 

it's pretty effortless to go 70 miles in the Volt rev II. With that kind of ev range, you really don't need to put more than ¼ a fillup in the tank - & unless you go for a long drive, that little dab of gas will easily last a year - as well as charging at home off the rooftop solar.

I feel similar though, I won’t be buying another car that I can’t fill up at home.

 

The best thing about PHEVs is, you can fill them up at home, or in a sleepy little mountain town 250 miles from the nearest interstate - or EV charger.

I just filled my Prius Prime up for the first time since March and about half that fuel was used on one trip to Breckenridge Colorado. I don't mind that level of not filling up at home if it means I can go anywhere I want anytime I want without worrying about range or fueling/charging infrastructure.

 

How many Tesla have you owned in the last 10 years? Or do you still own the same one?

 

one of the gals from the city of Orange still has her Roadster, even though she moved up to a Model S years ago if it matters. I would guess that 90% probably moved up to Tesla's larger offerings just because they wanted or needed more passenger/cargo room.

 

You ever have the fuel maintenance mode come on?

Never, only the engine maintenance mode.

 

I was always prepared, in case of emergency. I've had to use it on occasion, with an inverter during power failures. With the Volt now gone, I've used the Spark as a back-up battery.

 

Heavens no, the Roadster was not a very good fit for us. But we wanted to put our money where are mouth was and help get the word out.
We moved on the the Model S, then the Model 3 and then the Model Y as each became available.

It was really interesting on our first drive in the Roadster pulling up behind what seemed like a big SUV. We then realized it was a Prius!

if use up all the traction pack - the system reverts to a regular hybrid mode and as long as you do that at least every several weeks - you never go to maintenance mode. Conversely if you NEVER run your traction track down - then it will come on after several weeks - for something like five or 10 minutes. On cold Winters, you can start in Mountain mode - which will force the car into using the ice (at least at higher throttle, but at lower, it reverts to hybrid on and off running) running Mountain mode lets your system use the ice for cabin heat - rather than have to waste the traction pack capacity on resistance Heating.
After charging & then driving through Albuquerque last February - it was around 10°f just a couple hours before dawn, & that ice Heat not only warmed the cabin, but the traction pack as well.

What I remember of the Volt was that there was an engine maintenance mode. That would come on every few weeks as you say. It was to circulate the oil, and keep the engine in running condition. Then there was a fuel maintenance mode. If no gas was added in like a year, the car would go into hybrid mode to burn off the old fuel.

With less driving happening, Prime owners might see a fuel maintenance mode.
