Toyota had introduced this vehicle in japan as the 4th gen Harrier, so it was much easier to bring it here as is rather than design a larger version. In Japan style matters a lot, so they can increase market share by having two different looking but similarly sized vehicles.

It is already a big hit in japan: Toyota Japan Got 15 Times More Orders For The Venza Than Expected

I'm wondering why they didn't bring this out as the next generation Lexus NX. the current NX is still based on the previous gen Rav4 and is overdue for a refresh.

Gee I'd appreciate being in those demographic groups. But 77.5 years, married, and owned a V and a Rav4h as my last two cars.

IMHO, the Venza is a Toyota attempt to offer an almost Lexus SUV with minimal investment. In a review I saw them side by side do a suitcase test, seeing how many they could fit in. The Rav4h fit about 3 more than the Venza.

Humm, very nice. But cargo too small for my wife. Not sure what price they will be, but have a feeling it will be close to HyHi?

You would have been correct if you had said the ICE Highlander.

It's up on the Toyota site now, $32,470 starting. $4k more than the Rav4h and $6k less than the Highlanderh.

Oh, then it is about the same as ICE Sienna. I don't think the price for the 2021 hybrid Sienna is out. My wife will not likely to settle for a vehicle with a cargo size anything smaller than our current Pathfinder Hybrid. That means HyHi or HySienna would be the only choice to replace our current HyPath. We still have time, there will be more choices in 2-3 years.

After seeing one up close several weeks ago, it’s very similar in size to the Lexus RX. It’s a very handsome design with a very upscale look and feel. While I waited in the Showroom while picking up my Marai, it had a lot of customer attention and may even still sales from the RAV4 and RX.

Yeah it's targeting those that want a compact SUV but maybe the RAV4 is too "rugged" looking.

I didn't see this one, hopefully not double-post:

About 8 min in he switches from mostly-praise to near-rant, about some awkward/frustrating (maybe even dangerous) dash controls. :(

Yeah the part about not being able to use them with gloves on is annoying.

Don't think this has been posted?

Doug picks up on this too; they're miniscule slits, down very low.

The radio and climate controls are another of Doug's nits, high on my list too. I do like a lot about this car though.

Pretty much. I've seen a bunch of these on the streets of Eugene OR this past week, all with the little tell-tales stickers that airport rental cars get.

The hip spoiler looks cool but that's it, everything else about this car just vanishes into the background.

"Limply washing up on the sandbar of mediocrity, this new Venza appears to offer a new degree of unspecified non-variety to those already accustomed to white bread mayonnaise sandwiches with the crusts cut off..."

Very comfortable seats. Horrible view out the back window. Awkwardly shaped small cargo space. My wife considered it, then preferred a car form and bought an Avalon hybrid.
