I had mine done a couple months ago, now I have no power to the passenger side and their electrical taping was all lose and unwound. I just wish I had a pic of what the wiring looked like before the recall work was done..
I got contacted by the dealership after bringing in my 2011 Prius for a safety recall about the "headlight enhancement" upgrade. The thing is I have TRS HID kit installed instead of the halogen bulbs so not sure if it's worth taking the risk of them messing with the wiring. Should I still get it done?
Hello, I realize I'm jumping into an old thread, and hopefully I'll be able to find some information here. I have a 2011 prius, which I bought used. My headlights both went out. The daytime lights and high beam lights are still working. Reading the letter from Toyota, it seems like they're replacing them through October 2019. It is now December 2019 and I'm waiting for a return call from a toyota service manager. I'm curious to know if they'll extend the extension. My question is this: If i change the bulbs on my own (before hearing back from Toyota), will that exclude me from being able to have them replaced by toyota if that doesn't resolve the issue (assuming they're willing to extend)? The service department is not open outside of my working hours, and my next day off is 5 days away. I'd rather replace than wait for information from Toyota, but also would rather they fix the problem than chase this problem on my own. Thanks.
I had my wiring harness replaced under this last month. They replaced the bulbs as well. I think it’s up to the service rep to throw them in.
Replace them yourself. I believe it says they will reinburse you for the cost of them if you have the receipt. Or, do what I'm going to do, Install the old burned out ones when I take it in to get fixed.
Hello, I think I might have set a record here. I'm currently replacing about 6 bulbs a year. And I have done it so many times now that I can literally do this in the dark as I have done on occasion. Both driver's side and passenger side bulbs go abruptly. Though saying this, I always do drive with my low beams on just for safety and I average about 40,000 km per year. So yes, I am Canadian...i wonder if a warranty applies here. Now here's the kicker, this is a 2014 Prius C. The last 8 or so bulbs have been the Sylvania HID xenon H11 bulbs at $69 a set mainly because they warranty them for a year. Lol.
It's not really any safer to have your light in during the day. If someone can't see you during the day with the sun out, or even cloudy, the lights aren't going to help. But it's your car. How often do you drive at night? Maybe less expensive bulbs? But if you get a year warranty, you only have to pay once!
The agencies that study such things do seem to have convinced themselves there is a safety benefit to daytime running lights. On the other hand, DRLs are usually designed for better longevity than you get by just running your low beams at full power all day. My main concern about Ron's post is that the only headlight-harness recall I was aware of was for halogen-equipped cars. In a car with HIDs I think the story may be different.
Don’t leave out the ones looking down onto their phones to tap “like”, those DRLs becomes invisible to them.
That's funny because I was just thinking of trying some cheaper non-xenon bulbs to see if there would be more life in them. This problem really only started about 3 years ago since the original set of bulbs finally died with an exceptable 3 years of service. Now I'm starting to wonder if the stock bulbs were that much better....
Anybody having issues with the intensity and brightness of the headlight after Toyota fixed the headlight harness?
