I see the risers helped with the engine appearance cover clearance.

 

My understanding is that he put it in and noticed the very slight improvement and got on with his life and didn't do anything beyond that... Thus far he said the larger aftermarket throttle body is the only thing that made a significant difference...

 

Most definitely! Straight forward installation, it's kinda lopsided with the others being lower but works for the solenoid clearance. Now if there were 3 of those standoffs...

That is actually a very good point! When designing the struts I did try with increasing the height of all 3 struts. The cover then looked very protruded, in order to clear the rear lip with risers all around, the overall length of each risers had to be increased significantly, because we lose the tangent(opposite height) when the plane becomes uniformly leveled.
Very happy installation was a breeze for you!

 

So can you leave the red bullet in when you smog the car or do you have to take it off?

 

I leave it in for annual mechanical inspection and warranty work from Toyota. The Red Bullet works by making the efficient VVTI more efficient. Getting to the optimal valve position faster with the increased speed and force from the solenoid.

 

Looks like it advances valve timing quicker than stock. That wont hurt anything and its cool it advances it yet the engine does not ping.
They r&d'ed and advanced it till it pinged then backed off a little.

I wonder why Toyota didn't do this? Maybe they found under certain circumstances heat or load or fuel type the car is going to ping with its timing advanced like that.

But if your zooming that still takes more gas so zooming and better gas mileage doesn't add up but who cares I'm zooming in a Prius!! I like it.

That vvti system will now be flowing more oil so keep an eye on its tiny little filter at every oil change.

Try using Redline 5-30 if you want to see a big difference in oil.

 

Agree. I get 65-67mpg daily and to the tank with redline.

 

Its really good freakin' oil....with the ZDDP pack it has it makes the G2 motor sound like it has hydraulic lifters. At 150,000 miles you can eat off its lifter valley.

Look at the cam journals really no wear at all which is really good for a solid lifter car::

 

I sent my previous winter redline oil sample to blackstone labs w/11,000 miles on it. They said the oil sample is on par with 9,300 miles driven and the zinc left over was still in the 1000 ppm range. If you're interested about the rest of the oil analysis, I can send you a photo of it.

 

Thanks I have some UOA's over in the G2 stickies along with some Redline D6 trans fluid UOA's I run in my G2 trans.

Redline is really known for its trans & gear lube but they make a wicked good engine oil too.
I have used there trans fluid & gear oil for about 35 years but there engine oil only for about the last 8
years.They love it over at Bitog.

The only car I have not moved Redline trans fluid over to is my cop car Crown Vic. The 4R70 trans is really picky and seems to run best on Motorcraft Mercon5 so I leave it alone.

I like the technology involved with the Red Bullet. Its just a minor tweek in the timing advance which is sometimes all it needs to wake the car up. Brings back many memorys of power timing the distributor in my hot rods.
I just bought a Bullet for my G2. It has a brand new battery so has all its power back. Engine runs perfect. Time for some Zooming lol..........

 

Again guys I just wanted to know bottom line if the red bullet will mess with my smog if no then I’m ordering it tomorrow

 

Sorry my annual mechanical inspection includes the smog test you are referring to. They call it emissions quality control test.

 

Warranty on the AC compressor. It wasn't cool enough i said, they checked it and topped up or bleed the AC system and sent me on my way with ice cold AC.

 

I need to get me some of that for my next change. Looks amazing!

 

Leave it in. On a OBDII

Will not throw a code or cause the engine check light to come on. Should have no impact on emissions testing.
