    Easier to do for trucks, and fleet operators might pay for their own.

    The companies will leverage the newly developed Hino XL Series chassis with Toyota’s proven fuel cell technology to deliver exceptional capability without harmful emissions. This collaboration expands upon the existing effort to develop a 25-ton FCET for the Japanese market which was announced earlier this year. The initial demonstration vehicle is expected to arrive in the first half of 2021.

    It is so ugly, keep it in Japan:

    Some can be.
    This art deco homage has caught my eye.

    That's an International Lonestar, which I just learned is actually a homage to their classic D2 pickup.

    While I've seen many Hino box trucks, I don't recall seeing many semis in my travels.

    I don't know whether to think of this part as humorous or dishonest;
    Nothing but water emissions means you don't count the brown coal used to reform the hydrogen. Devil is in the details
    It's like saying Fukushima only emitted electricity. You have to Discount the hot toxic fuel Rod waste.

    In the US, it will be from natural gas.

    In the US this is likely going to go to ports of LA and Long Beach.
    Port of Los Angeles Preliminarily Awarded $41 Million from California Air Resources Board to Launch Zero Emissions Hydrogen-Fuel-Cell-Electric Freight Project | Port of Los Angeles
    For port of LA - CARB AKA California tax payers put up at least $41 M on top of what the federal government is putting in for this pilot program. Some hydrogen will be made from cow pies from dairy farms, some from solar, some from natural gas. Not really a bad experiment, although I would think you could do a flex fuel (could burn methanol made from renewable electricity, carbon dioxide, and water, or methanol from those cow pies, or gasoline, or other liquid fuel) PHEV semi that would allow an inexpensive miller cycle engine, a big battery for all electric miles where required, and gasoline when out in the hinterlands on long hauls. Tesla's electric semi, and toyota Hino's fuel cell semi will compete here both of these. The possible phev semi can't satisfy California's regulations as they don't want it to be able to burn gasoline even outside the state.

    When they have no choice they will do what needs to be done.
