After 250,000 miles (Update: now 293,000), should I just drive it 'til it drops?

Good on ya!! We're following in your path, but a long way behind you. My wife just put her foot down and said she does NOT want a newer Prius and want to keep her '07 as long as she can. (I love her!!) But it'll be a long time before her 127k mile '07 catches up with you. She's only put on about 39k miles since she got it in December 2015.

That's the spirit! I also have an 08 that just passed the 200,000 mark ( bought at 64000 miles). My feeling is that the 05 outperforms the 08 due to the fact that the 05 was bought new and always maintained by me. Any used car is subject to uncertainties. The first 64000 miles could have been rough which is my feeling. Regardless, it is holding up. I was experiencing an issue at start up last year with the hybrid battery discharging as I took off each morning and dropping sometimes into the purple range. Letting the car run for 5 minutes with the heat on high has resolved the problem. Now that we will be heading into Spring once again, let's see how long this little trick holds out. Heat is a known killer of the main battery...

September 23, 2019... The '05 is still going! Close to 360,000 miles. Blower unit died again (free replacement of part - Rock Auto) I have to get under the dash again before it gets too cold. The check engine light comes on intermittently P0446. Exhaust issue that needs to be checked out. Muffler is getting loud for a Prius but then again, at one time, I drove over a month with no muffler because it was backordered back in 2011! Heading into another winter! I don't believe it will pass inspection for 2020. Time will tell

February 4, 2020: Now at 267,512 miles and still going strong. We are once again heading toward the annual inspection. Will it pass?
I have a friend in the business who can get the car checked out before I bother fixing the exhaust system. If the frame passes inspection, there is a possibility that it may reach 400,000 miles. No problems mechanically. Does not burn oil. If the car does not pass, I will be parting it out if there is interest. The car has been meticulously maintained... just a victim of upstate driving and exposure to heavy doses of road salt over its lifetime.

It passed inspection! Getting the muffler replaced and we are good to go. I have it down at the shop. Should be good to go by the end of the week. Is it possible that this thing will make it to 400,000 with the original hybrid battery? I have been expecting it to die since 2014!

October 6, 2020: Just passed 387,000 miles. Looking at buying a new 2021 Rav4 Prime. The car still runs fine and everything works Interior is all leather that has been covered since new. Console, arm rests, are also leather and in like new condition. Floor mats, carpeting, etc in very good - excellent condition. Never kids or pets in car. 90% highway commuting with no passengers. No problems at all with the hybrid battery. Runs as it should. Rocker panels rusted and gone. Some doors also have rust. Light blue with beige/ cream interior. Located in upstate NY close to Vermont / Adirondacks. Anyone interested in the whole car?

I have the pictures as promised. I haven't gotten around to clean the interior yet or do any detailing. Just removed the seatcovers and floor coverings.
Parts would be great for someone wanting to restore or upgrade their interior. All roof felt and inner paneling in excellent condition as well.

Wow, your looks very good. Mine has 100k less miles but your is in better condition. In 2015 I purchased a 2013 Prius but found the cabin too small for me (I am 6'-1") and not being able to lean my knee to the right or stretch made me go back to 2008. Also, it seemed I had more power with 2008 than in 2013. Later I tried the 2017 Prius prime but had the same issue.

Now I am waiting for the Telsa truck and will probably try to find another low mileage 2009 prius to keep as a backup.
