Hello, Is there a way to enable or to add brake auto-hold function on Prime ? I have a C-HR hybrid which has this feature and it's helping me a lot in stop and go traffic... Thanks!
Use the adaptive cruise control and it will stop and hold for you. Then you tap up on the CC stalk (resume) to go again. No brakes or accelerator pedal used needed. I increase and decrease the ACC following distance to adjust the acceleration and braking - trying to 'soften' it vs the computer's control.
Sometimes I'm using CC to handle that. However, CC is not 'soft' enough for me on both acceleration and braking. So that is not a good option. I prefer to start breaking way ahead in order to put as much charge as I can back to the battery.
My other car has the feature. Basically you brake to a full stop. If you then apply additional brake pressure the car will keep the car stopped after you take your foot off the brake. You release the brakes by applying the accelerator. I don’t use it.
When you come to a stop then release your foot off the brake, the car will hold the brakes until you touch the accelerator. In the US, Toyotas with Brake Auto-Hold have a separate button (labelled ((!)) AUTO HOLD) which you have to engage every time (e.g. Camry or Highlander) while other manufacturers just automatically engage that function once you come to a stop. No. That's Hill-Start Assist. But it is similar. Brake Auto-Hold holds the brakes until you touch the accelerator (after you come to a complete stop). With Toyota's version, you have to press the switch every time you want it engaged in North American versions (e.g. Camry). Hill-Start Assist only holds the brakes for 2ish seconds before releasing them.
In the two Primes in my experience (2017 Advanced and 2020 Limited) the hill-hold is automatic, assuming you stop with the car at enough of an angle (unlike the Gen 3 when you had to depress the brake all the way to the floor to engage it). If I stop and the car is at a sufficiently steep angle the brake will stay on for a brief time (a few seconds) while I switch my foot from the brake to the accelerator, which keeps the car from rolling backwards.
So I have driven other Toyotas that have a separate button, my dad just bought a 2021 Prime, we found that the brake hold is used by either setting the cruise on wheel stoped, it will set the speed to 19MPH or if you have been using a set speed you can use the resume, press up on the CC, if you are stopped with foot on the brake, it will hold the brakes when you take your foot off until you press the accelerator or the CC up.
