I just bought my first Prius. It's an 07 with leather and 86k on the clock. I paid 6k and think it was a good deal. I know that low mileage and age isn't a good combo for the battery situation but it runs and drives great. I look forward to learning more about how the car operates and that was actually a big part of why I wanted a Prius. That and my 50 mile round trip commute. Hopefully an intro post is allowed in this part of the forum, if not feel free to move or delete. Thanks!
Welcome to PriusChat!! Check for dealer maintenance and recalls by running the VIN @ Track Your Service Records with Your Toyota Owners Account It might be a good time to top charge or recondition the HV battery, and possibly drain and fill the ATF-WS transaxle fluid as well.
That's the kind of information I was hoping for. Thanks so much SFO I'll be looking into the top charge/reconditioning of the battery.
I’m with SFO. now is the time to buy a hybrid battery charger. It will prop that hybrid battery up for a few years with remedial charges and few discharge. If the battery throws the red triangle of death the RTOD it’s too late and must be replaced or rebuilt. A hassle. No way around it your circling the bowl with that mileage. Look at Hybridautomotive.com. For there prolong charger. I just bought a new battery and sold my 3 year old Prolong charger it worked really well.
I'll need to read about the prolong charger some I think. $469 for the system or $1400 for Greenbean battery with warranty when it does go bad. I'm sure the convo has been done to death on this forum so I'll dig deeper.
$400. Was the original model with the 2 bulbs socket on a board for discharge. I had 300 watchers and 40 bids. Amazing. Actually $375 + 25 for shipping.
That's a good price... I got my charger for $200 and it's the auto shop starter pack so charger is capable of working on 38 module packs in 330V range and works great on every hybrid I've used it on... Even little 168v Honda packs.
It looks the same as all the other round green Prolong Chargers... The label on the back says its for "Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2006-2013." When I first bought it I thought I failed, but when I talked to Prolong I realized this is the most powerful consumer type charger they sell so it will work on all hybrid batteries. It's usually sold with a harness or two for each hybrid car type and can be seen on their website in professional section here: Value Shop Starter Kit – Toyota & Honda | Hybrid Automotive The shop I bought if from upgraded to more expensive equipment and I showed up on end of the day Friday with $200 cash and they said no way and so I walked out and then at last minute, they're like, ok, whatever...
