I want to route a yellow RCA plug (from a front camera) through the firewall. I see two options, but both are difficult:

    1. From the engine bay, I can see and easily access a big grommet on the passenger side (left side, in Australia) ... (as per the photo attached to this message) but unfortunately, I can't see it at all on the inside. Do I need to remove the glove boxes? After lying on my back, It looks like there will still be a big white plastic assembly in the way, I imagine it's for the air conditioning.

    2. From the inside, up above the accelerator pedal, I can see and access another big grommet. But from the engine bay that side is all inaccessible - there is no grommet to be seen, and no room to reach around and feel for anything.

any advice for me? thanks very much!

Thanks for all the help for anyone else struggling with the same problem -- it is not so bad when you remove the two glove boxes, then you will see the other side of the grommet. From the engine bay you just carefully poke a coat hanger through the side of it. You need someone down inside the car to help you guide the coathanger correctly all the way through. Then you make a hook and use tape to securely wrap your video RCA plug to the coat hanger, lube it all up, and draw it back into the engine bay.
Probably would have been easier and better if I had made a bigger slit in the grommet with a knife.

    Hi Soh,
I don't know anything about an EGR clean. What is it? I've been getting the car regularly serviced ... is this something I can do myself, or I should ask them to do?

My 2009 generation III has 100,000km's on it. I drive a lot, around 1000km per week. Great car, just had it a few months, I love it.

The camera I bought from ebay, cheap (around $20) but supposedly waterproof, and CCD. It is working great so far. This forum isn't letting me post a link to it, sorry. i wired it up as the front camera, and I have another I'll connect as the rear camera this weekend. I have them going into the Pioneer DMH z53550bt, which is a great unit with the dual camera inputs etc.
    cheers :)

THIS, THIS, and also THIS will give you an idea of what's involved with cleaning the EGR circuit. You can always get LOTS more info by doing a search for "2010 Prius clean the EGR circuit" or "2009 Prius....etc".

Thanks Ed. i had no idea. Something to look forward to :-/ I'll imagine I'll probably wait until the rough idle and engine warning signal appear. Then try this job, possibly put in a oil catch can at same time. I'm not very experienced DIY'er, the most i've done is changing oil and audio head unit. But, i suppose anything is doable. cheers

It's a handful, and requires a decent tool set and a few specific tools to make the job doable. The estimable Mendel Leisk here has lots of very useful information on the subject. If you give Toyota a lot of money to clean it, most likely they will just replace it. I would be wary of waiting for lights. You're getting into possible head gasket failure there. Batter to be proactive if you can.

    100,000 miles....

100000 miles? Ok then I will plan for it around then. Ive read about the struggle people have clearing it, may be better to just replace with a fresh unit. I saw one guy went to all the trouble, put it back together, and then his trouble started (must have damaged it I'm the cleaning process)

Its not that difficult, but you do need a bit of time. The thread egr clean what have I got myself into is the one I followed and posted a few tips at the end as well for RHD cars and the cleaning agent I used in Oz.
I was proactive and did it as soon as I got a bit of a jerky ride specially on an incline.
I would also recommend a change in spark plugs and transmission oil while you are at it.
Keep an eye on ozbargain for discount coupons to make it cheaper, I got the spark plugs from sparesbox and use original parts for everything else specially on the transmission fluid from Toyota. I DIY and just use the original parts.
Good luck with the car, would you mind sharing the mileage you are getting, thanks.

When I fill up, the computer predicts I will do around 829km's, iirc.

Say did you put in an aftermarket head unit? I've just done that, but found the Aerpro wiring harness doesn't actually have a plug for the steering wheel controls :-(

I am after one, the pioneer is a good suggestion, I am looking for an android 10 unit though with android auto.
    Try Crutchfield or
Desertcart: Find Anything - Online Shopping in Australia

I am going to get some internal led globes from them shortly.

Wow, 829 km that is great, mine only displays around 680Km.
