Not sure why PA doesn't sell the Prime so I have to go to Bethesda MD to get one. Exited to get it. Did a lot of research on it from here. Awesome chat room. Picking it up this Saturday. I'm getting the red one with black interior. Getting a great deal. Trading in my 2016 Prius.

congrats! probably cause pa isn't a carb state?

toyota claimed prime was not going to be a compliance car (only sold in carb states) but they lied, just like they did with the pip

Red and black. Good combo. Too bad you got Supersonic Red and not the discontinued Hypersonic Red. (jk) ;)

PA state offers 500.00 rebate for plug in hybrid. I was shocked. They also offer 30% refund on 240 v installed at home. Plus the 4500 Federal.
    Not to bad.

Yes. NJ offers $625 rebate for buying the Prius Prime and the $4500 Federal Tax Credit. Also NJ offers 30% off purchase of new Level 2 EVSE and up to $1000 Federal Credit for installation of same. Pretty happy about all that.

This car is truly awesome. Unfortunately I had to drive 260 miles to get home and ran in hv mode. I did get 65mpg going 70mph.
Question when I charged it up when I got home the three lights on dashboard was blinking from one then two then the third light started to flash. So it was first and 2nd light stayed lit the 3rd light flashing. I went upstairs for about 20 minutes. When I went back down all the lights where off. And the brick was not showing charged. Is this normal behavior?

    Thanks.

Well normally the lights blink when charging and 1 light blinking means low charge, 1 steady and 2nd blinking is some charge and 2 steady and 3rd blinking is almost full.

When plugging in and on a timer, all 3 will be steady for several seconds then turn off (until the charge time).

If there's some other combination, refer to the manual as it can indicate an error.

That is normal. When the charge is complete the blinking lights on the dash, all three lights will be solidly turned on for a short time then turn off completely and EVSE (charge cable brick) charging indicator also stops.

What you saw was 100% normal.

The "brick" as you call it must be the circuit box on the EVSE cable. It never shows whether the car is partly charged, fully charged, or depleted. It shows it it has incoming power and it it's charging. If the power light is on and the charge light is off, then it's either finished charging, not connected to the car, or connted and waiting for the car's scheduler to tell it to begin charging.

The writers probably never expected anyone to think it would keep charing when the battery reached the 83% state of charge that the car considers "full."

Just like your phone charger and your laptop charger, it stops when the battery is full, except the Prius charging system is vastly more expensive and sophisticated. 100% on the display is actually about 83%. It leaves a similar cushion on the bottom. It's never actually empty. It will not let the battery get full or empty. It leaves a buffer at both ends so that the battery will perform well for more years than the one in your phone. There's also a green LED in the charging port that's on while it's charging and off while it's not charging.

The easiest way to know if it's finished or if it's waiting on the scheduler is to open a door. A message will come up on the dash. If it's done, it'll say "Charging Port Door Open." If it's waiting, it'll tell you what event it's waiting for.

They told me the same thing in Virginia so I bought mine in Frederick, MD. Only later did I find out that an Arlington, VA dealer had several. I guess my dealership was hoping I would settle for an HV instead. Or they hated that other dealer. They did refer me to a different dealer in Bethesda, but I liked the other's inventory better.

This car is AWESOME. Getting 32 miles per charge only after two weeks of ownership.

Went on a 170 mile trip and I was going EV mode until I got to highway. Ran EV down to
80 % then put in HV mode once on highway. When going downhills I would put it in EV mode and charged battery up to 95%. Then I put it in HV MODE once on level and going up hills and it took the % down to 75 % I didn't think it was supposed to do that. Concerned.

Did the battery SoC continued to decrease after it went down to 75%? A possible explanation would be when you switched to HV, the engine needed to go through the warm-up cycle. While the engine is warming up, even if the car is in the HV mode, most of the energy comes from the traction battery. Depending on how fast you were driving and the terrain of the road such as steep up-hill, this could use quite a bit of the traction battery energy.

No it stayed at 75%. 65 F temp outside. This happened over several down hill to get charge to 95%. It didn't do it until charged to 95. I would think the engine would be warmed up going up the hills in hv mode.

Loving my Prius prime. Getting 40 miles on a charge. Simply awesome. That even includes highway going 60mph for 10 miles. Downhill and uphill. 50 miles total to work and back. Only 10 miles on hybrid mode rest is battery.
