in the end, with the deed done, and the old parts unavailable, we can do nothing but guess. in (minimal) defense of the dealer, we have seen this reported before, and the brakes were a mess.

Was your car 2 years young at the time?

If you asked it, it had been two years young every year for a few by then.

But the rotor faces are pretty much bare metal, even at two years. If you are in corrosive conditions they'll corrode. If you're not driving enough to keep them scrubbed, it'll get bad.

Yeah. Left with salt and water on them, then just exposed to air and humidity, they will rot away in no time. When I lived on a small island it seemed like my main job was rust mitigation. Had to take cars to the body shop at least once a year and that was just from the salt in the air!

OK, I assumed the OP is from the largest Ontario I know... But, I learned that there are other possibilities.

I am going to guess Ontario California. Final Answer...

What about the province of Ontario, Canada? You know, the one containing their capital city Ottawa.

Of course, that was my guess. But that's so obvious, it is not in the list of Ontario (disambiguation).

A couple years ago, driving home from Ottawa, I noticed I was headed for Ontario, Ohio. Struck me funny.

When visiting family in Ohio, we usually go through Ontario between Galion and Mansfield. Not much to see there.

    Toronto is where it's at!

I enjoyed the summer we vacationed through the north central part of Ontario. I remember hiking across the large flat rocks in the park.

We visited friends in Severn Falls a few years ago, which is 50-60 miles north of Toronto. It's an area of glacial lakes that is just gorgeous. I'd love to visit again.

The same names but different places. I have once traveled to Norway, Paris, Denmark, Naples, Sweden, Poland, Mexico, Peru, and China, all in a single day starting from here.

Without reading further, not very likely. Ontario California is inland enough not have a ton of salt in the air, and being in the Southwest, humidity is usually in the 30% range.

I also live in a suburb of Los Angeles, a dozen or so miles from the ocean. If I don't drive my Prius or my Hybrid Avalon for weeks at a time, I get Rust on my rotors. This thread was about low usage and its effect on brakes. I think that Ontario, CA can fit into the situation.

Another clue that the location may be in the US is that he is reporting miles rather than kms (although possibly he is Canadian and wants to convey something more relatable for Americans).

Would that same dealer replace all the pads and rusty rotors on all the cars that have been sat on his lot for months during lock down ?
I very much doubt it.
