that's the theory for our slowly increasing rates, social gatherings.

they just busted a hotel for allowing a wedding with over the 100 person limit. $600. fine, not enough to discourage bad behavior imo.

Quotes from Governor and diagram from Ohio State Health Dept. Your choice of course, but I see no reason to apologize for the pipe it came through.

Map showing states with >40 thousand cases that are not yet slowing new cases:

US states outline COVID not decreasing.png

Better lung separation required for US down going to get steeper. We want steeper.

With some imagination, see half encirclement of SD where Sturgis is now having its 10-day annual economy boost.

Globally, India is currently taking a shot at top spot. Several European countries and Morocco, Peru and Singapore are on the rise. Brazil, Mexico and S Africa provide noisy data, so it's hard to know which way they are going.

We had a few second wave outbreaks in Australia, all stemming from one state and really one city, all due to selfish idiots it seems. As a result, the virus spread to 3 other states, two of which jumped hard on it and closed their borders again, the third took a while to actually fully close their border because of the problems involving cross border workers and medical facilities.
The problem state came down very hard on the offending city and put them into full lock-down again, no excuse for anyone connected to an outbreak household, don't leave your property boundary or face a mega fine and lock up for a second offence. 8pm to 5 am curfew, you need a certificate from your employer that verifies you are an essential worker in an essential service. No overlapping shifts in the 24hr/day 24/7 industries and the staff had to be reduced by up to 50% in some industries that were allowed to open at all, the rest were forced into shut down for 6 weeks. If you are out of your house, you must be wearing a mask, no ifs, buts or I'm claustrophobic or such B/S, if you can't wear a mask, stay home, end of story.
The rate of new infections has already stabilised and some signs of the rate falling been after the week the lockdown has been in place, the out breaks in all the other states are now fully contained.

I can't see that sort of action ever happening in the USA, so I guess it will be a case of the weakest fall off the perch and the rest either recover with serious health issues (that may be life long) or are a symptomatic and just be spreaders without suffering any ill effects ........ as long as that holds out for all the mutated strains that are about now.
The whole idea that a vaccine will be the magic fix is about as fanciful as the suggestion that the whole virus thing would just disappear ...... Too many mutated strains now for one shot fixes all type of fix

Source: The six strains of SARS-CoV-2 -- ScienceDaily

The virus causing the COVID-19 pandemic, SARS-CoV-2, presents at least six strains. Despite its mutations, the virus shows little variability, and this is good news for the researchers working on a viable vaccine.

We typically see multiple influenza strains incorporated:
Frequently Asked Influenza (Flu) Questions: 2019-2020 Season | CDC
    • Flu vaccines are updated to better match viruses expected to be circulating in the United States.
    • The A(H1N1)pdm09 vaccine component was updated from an A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus to an A/Brisbane/02/2018 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus.
    • The A(H3N2) vaccine component was updated from an A/Singapore/INFIMH-16-0019/2016 A(H3N2)-like virus to an A/Kansas/14/2017 (H3N2)-like virus.
    • Both B/Victoria and B/Yamagata virus components from the 2018-2019 flu vaccine remain the same for the 2019-2020 flu vaccine.
    • All regular-dose flu shots will be quadrivalent. (No trivalent regular-dose flu shots will be available this season.)
I think our species is clever enough to deal with different virus strains. That happened with HIV and I don't see a technical reason why we can't do it for this one.

Sanitizing an N95 mask in an Instant Pot:

    News Bureau | ILLINOIS

Disclosure: earlier this spring, in research supported by Chap's kitchen counter, I was experimenting with an Instant Pot and a leftover N95 mask that I had, but I was trying to replicate moist-heat conditions that had been favorably reported in a published study, using the Sous Vide setting at 70℃ and suspending the mask from the top, out of the water.

My work was not promising (the humidity got too high and condensed on the mask, making it soggy and losing its form). But these folks also pursuing the Instant Pot idea, but dry and set for 100℃, seem to be on to something.

My next door neighbor just died last night from COVID-19. She was 65 and in great health. She went to the hospital yesterday morning complaining of neck and shoulder pain. They admitted her and by 8 pm she was dead. Further details are not necessary but they were as careful as anyone we knew.

If you're going to go, go fast I guess.

it'd be interesting to know if the med facility used any of the 'questionable' remedies. Over a month ago, we had a close family member in the hospital (for a week) with the bug. A poster child for respiratory, post chemo, & other issues, & 62 years of age, she was administered a couple of the controversial cocktails, along with steroids to decrease lungs being messed up. Less than 24 hours later, there was an 80% Improvement. So, a bunch of those that are most susceptible - do pull through. Heck - if the med community has nothing else going on, who wouldn't be ticked off if they found out the bureaucrats proscribed usage ... even if it's just a placebo.
