Recommendations to 2010 on 247k

    First, thanks for all answers
    Quick description of the 2010 Prius trim 5:
    -I got the car on 234k last year now 247k
    -Everything is original, no engine lights
    -Last summer got around 50mpg but this year around 45 ( but driving less due to current situations)
    -Changed transmission fluid
    -History of car looks fine; regular maintenance plus bearing change
    -It burns a little oil
    -Feels a little rattling on slow speeds, when turning on/off gas engine
    -Following fluids in a regular basis
    In a nutshell, there is no major problem for me! So my questions are;
    1) Changing the spark plugs and cleaning EGR? if yes, original plugs or different one?
    2) Oil filter is too hard to unplug, any suggestion?
    3) I felt like driving with A/C on is better than off during these hot days, since hybrid battery needs cooler interior air. Is this a good approach or made up? If yes, how to use A/C more effectively over MPG?
    4) Any other preventative change/cleaning?
    I read some posts related to these issues and know that there are really experienced guys here.

    hard to make recommendations without knowing the service history. i would say the egr circuit should be first up on the list.
    some have measured a slight drop in battery temp with a/c on, but i think it's always a good idea. the old saying is, if you're comfortable, so is your battery. make sure the intake and fan are clean, might be worth opening the battery case for cleaning and inspection.
    either way, a nest egg for a large repair is always a good idea.

    1.) SC16HR11 spark plugs and yes to EGR valve, cooler and pipe..
    2.) Use longer ratchet when remove oil filter, much easier..
    3.) For me, 68°F @ fan speed 4 to 5 works best for my prius.. I've test it with hybrid assistant app, and found setting above has sufficiently coon down overall battery temperature...
    4.) While doing EGR, I would go ahead replace radiator coolant, inverter coolant, clean intake manifold, throttle body, and sensors, replace intake manifold gasket, PCV etc...

    Try a breaker bar and/or a oil filter tool with the teeth (for reference:
    ). Make sure you're turning in the correct direction. Counterclockwise to loosen, clockwise to tighten. The first time I did an oil change, I stripped my oil filter housing by going the wrong direction :oops:. Not sure how I managed that, as I didn't even have a breaker bar or a cheater bar at the time :LOL:.

    Sure does, but nowadays counterfeits are legion and 'look good'. Better to know where you got them and how much you paid. If they are cheapies from eBay, I would beware of them...

    Based on the close up photos, I can say that's the correct, authentic OEM spark plugs..

    I intentionally asked for that reason, I didn't know the price range, after buying these for 12$, I realized the dealer price is each 10$. Also asked to seller (he did confirm after asking his supplier) and made some visual checks and looks really good to me. I think I ll use it, at worst I ll replace it after 20k. Btw, this is gonna be the first s.plug replacement for this car on 247k mileage :D

    Sounds good. I would only buy spark plugs from Toyota or from a known/trusted online auto parts outfit. Trying to save a few bucks on a part that lasts 100,000 miles is a fool's errand.

    Changed my first plugs in my life, thanks to Nuts Bolts, it took 1,5 hours with cleaning cowl and beneath. My total cost is $30 with plugs, plier, 14mm deep socket and 9/16 plug socket. Thanks and I ll post for the performances of plugs IMG-20200822-WA0009.jpeg

    The car is at 247k miles, and didnt see a spark replacement in the reports of last 8 years. I got it on 234k

    Those plugs last a awful long time. Used my prius as a taxi, drove 280.000km on the same plugs. They still worked fine.
