    Yep -
    And yet Sandy Munro says otherwise

    Tesla’s new Model Y gets high marks from a critic Elon Musk respects

    Even so, there's no doubt that Tesla has ongoing quality issues. We had two teslas, & unloaded both because we are dissatisfied with quality. But even so, selling hundreds of thousands a year? What's it going to be like when they're no longer a new company, and they are dialed in quality-wise.
    As for the difference with Toyota quality? Last year, Toyota barely the list for the top 10 highest quality cars;

    We personally didn't have that many issues with our Prius, but these lists are made up of more than just the anecdotal members that we know about.

    Initial quality is an almost-useless metric. What matters is long-term reliability, i.e. reliability after the warranty runs out.

    On that, I've owned several Toyotas and not one of them has ever needed an out-of-warranty repair up through as much as 150,000 miles.

    If you lease the Leaf you will be happy. Everything but the battery is satisfying.

    If you own the leaf for a long period of time you will eventually be disappointed by battery life.

    There are early 2011 Leafs that are down to a 35 mile range

    There wasn’t a class action for nothing

    Most of the ones I know are 2014 or later.

    Perhaps the real Clincher to the OP's decision is that the RAV4 p will remain unavailable for the most part here in the US, until sometime down the road. And - as reported by some here, the highest ended options well be released first - which means after local taxes are added on, the price will be north of $50k.

    Seems to me that the only people that tout the JD Power initial quality survey are the people that don't know much about it. Please look into how it does it's stats and you may change your mind. Otherwise, just go on believing that the Ford Focus is of better quality than a Mercedes, Lexus, or Land Rover.

    Also JD Power is known to publish worse ratings for Auto companies that do not pay for their premium partner membership. Look it up in google and you’d see a pattern through their history.

    Would you mind sharing which Teslas you had, and the issues you encountered with both?

    Which vehicles did you get to replace the Teslas?

    Haven't made up my mind up yet. Giving current uncertain economic climate due to Covid19, going to take my time. Will also wait for reviews of the RavP as they come out this year, and also see if Tesla's "million mile battery" makes it to the Model 3.

    Tesla’s million mile battery might make it into Semis, even Cybertruck may not get it. Tesla might add that into their Robotaxi M3s. (I searched across multiple places and got this info from some Tesla forum - may not be legit)

    I already made a reservation for MY with FSD (AWD) and also have a RavP XSE (allocated to me) on the way to the dealer. Need to decide in a week or two.

    The Toyota dealer had promised NOT to add any markup on top of MSRP. If they don’t honor it, it’d make it easier for me to choose MY :)

    Still researching and trying to make up my mind. Will consider CoV-19 into the mix, thanks for the tip.

    good thing ! because members here are posting that stealerships are jacking them up $10,000 above MSRP .... so you'll practically still be able to get it for what it's worth.

    Gladly ~ first our 2016 S;

    Silver (no longer available), Sun roof (no longer available) gray leather seats (no longer available) with cooling ventilation (no longer available) - early autopilot 2. The car failed as we pulled into the driveway due to an air suspension front sensor "up" timeout. Yeah, it was great that the car can go locate points that automatically let the car raise its height to avoid dips or steep driveways - & great they could diagnose it remotely, but when you pay big money you don't expect such things, especially so early. After that .... came the complete inoperability of autopilot 2. It was over 1½ years before you could reasonably say that AP2 was better or at least as good as AP1, which btw had only ONE front & rear camera! Class action lawsuit & Tesla quietly settled - we got a few hundred back. Ultimately, we unloaded it because it was too low to the ground for the better ½ ... so .... even though we were enamored with all of its Advanced Tech, it wasn't ready for prime time, especially when customers have to pay so much for something that was not yet ready for primetime.
    Then a trade up to MX ..... and a shot with the better ½ bragging about all the bugs we smashed - traveling thousands of miles all around the US. This was our stop in Park City Utah;
    [IMG]
    We had many issues with this car. Head liner falling down, a yellow discoloration border forming around the screen (which the dealership tried for the longest time to say was normal) & Fit & finish for example;
    [IMG]
    Ask me what was worst of all was Tesla claiming that the ghosting image at night through the massive windshield that owners became frustrated over, they were told it's normal. Really? Decide for yourself

    So, you spend a lot for a car and you don't expect the service center to tell you this kind of crap is normal. Like when you floor it, and the U-joints start to shutter because they're wearing out too quick, and they tell, just drive in low suspension. LOL
    Despite all the junk like this, it would have been a great car if we could have purchased it for ½ of what we paid. You can actually buy a lemon buyback from tesla or their third parties & end up getting the car for what it's worth.
    But believe it or not, for the better ½ - who didn't mind getting nickel-and-dimed with little issues (primarily because I would have to take the car in) the straw that broke the camel's back was relatively small for many. You used to be able to have the rear view screen up on top of the massive screen at all times. Most newer cars have horrible rear views & this ability to see what's behind you on the top of the screen completely eradicated that problem.
    [IMG]
    Then one day, some punk software code'r decided to take that feature out.
    So now we have a 33 electric mile minivan

    Tesla recently dropped the price of the Model Y by $3k. A dual motor (AWD) long range (316mi range) has a purchase price of $49,999 + tax. A few of the forum reviews I've read of the Y do not appear to be favorable wrt to Tesla build quality (which seems to be typical of Tesla's), which is unfortunate as I was hoping Tesla would improve and learn from this area due to rampant build issues with the 3 and X.

    But they dropped the standard range version, which means that's the lowest price Model Y now.

    Build issues were reported by the folks that took delivery during the height of CoV-19 lockdown. My neighbor and a friend took their MY deliveries before and we’ll after the Pandemic lockdown, they are very happy with it.

    Since this price cut, am leaning more towards MY.

    The cheapest MY is Long range RWD that they will start to deliver those by end of the year.

    To me, there's no point in "crossovers" to exist if they don't have 4WD. With 2WD, there's no need for the higher ground clearance and thus it should just be a sedan.

    I'm considering a Rav4 Prime (currently have a Prius Prime) and I wouldn't be doing that for any feature other than 4WD + additional ground clearance.

    I drive a Prius Prime too and love it.

    Can you please outline your reasons for going with RAV4 Prime instead of a Model Y?

    The price difference is $12k and am wondering if it’s worth going to M Y.

    For me, the price difference is around $25k with the tax credits.

    The Rav4 Prime is built by Toyota - one of the best manufacturers anywhere for long-term reliability.
    The Rav4 Prime is supported by a wide dealer and 3rd party network. The Model Y isn't.
    The Rav4 Prime has a 600 mile range versus a ~300 mile range for the Model Y.
    The Rav4 Prime can be fueled almost anywhere for 600 miles of range in 2 minutes. The Model Y can get around 300 miles of range in an hour in about 700 places.
    The Rav4 Prime is available with a HUD. Even without the HUD, it has a real dash. The Model Y has nothing but a way-off-line-of-sight tablet.
    The Rav4 Prime is unlikely to have all the fit, finish and initial quality problems of the Model Y.
    I don't like the door mechanism on the Model 3. I'm not sure if it's the same on the Model Y but having to have the window roll down to get the door open is just idiotic.
    I don't like Elon anymore because of his stupid statements in response to the pandemic. Interestingly, my son and his friends all wanted Teslas before that, and now they won't touch them with a ten foot pole because of Elon's stupidity. They're all 16-17.

    I could go on and on.
