Featured Corolla Cross: Could it come to America?

It is the obvious product-gap being filled, now that RAV4 has grown so large.

 

Nope never nada.

(unless you count something similar with a different name coming in)

 

More likely to come here than the Corolla Sportwagon.

 

Crazy name really - it's not a Corolla. Same as the Mustang EV - sorry FORD, crazy name.

 

It's more Corolla than the C-HR it shares a platform with.
"The Corolla Cross has the same 103.9-inch wheelbase as the C-HR but it s a few inches longer, wider and taller than that subcompact model. It's also several inches longer, wider, and taller than the Corolla hatchback."

It has the same wheel base as the Corolla hatchback, too. The sedan and wagon have a longer wheelbase, though the cross is little wider and taller than them. The height difference is likely all in the ground clearance than in cabin space.

As for the outside appearance, the Camry in North America has two different front ends, and then the Prius and Prius Prime are quite different. More so than the Cross and other Corollas.

Once upon a time, Subaru treated the Outback as a trim of the Legacy.

That is all we need to know. The question is when?

Personally, this package looks awesome. It looks like a Subaru for folks who want a Toyota ( like me ).

 

Same here! Sweet move by Toyota ( assuming it comes to the USA ). I think they finally realized Subaru has little competition these days...and that people actually like the Subaru station wagon style. Frankly, I'm amazed by the number of Subaru wagons I see out on the road these days around here!

 

It was really only a matter of time. The necessity to improve SUV aerodynamics and a raised floor for battery storage made this offering inevitable.

 

Personally, I like taking road trips to SE Utah and places like that. Unfortunately, it is quite sketchy getting to some of the remote petroglyph sites and such in the Prius...and that has always held us back. Looks like this could be a major candidate for our next vehicle if the specs pan out.

 

Why am I the dampener of enthusiasm around here?
Part of Subaru's success has been in the marketing of AWD. The ICE Corolla Cross is like the Yaris Cross and US C-HR, FWD only. AWD can be had with the hybrid, but we haven't gotten the hybrid version of the C-HR nor Corolla hatchback.

I'd rather see hatchbacks and wagons, lifted or not, than SUVs. Hopefully, it will arrive here as a hybrid, and hopefully Ford will rethink the Focus Active after the election.

 

A FWD SUV could be had relatively easy. Unfortunately, when it comes to actual wagons with ground clearance in the US, AWD was the only option.

I predict the Corolla Cross will be hybrid and AWD only if it comes here.

Seriously though, that is a good argument. However, in my opinion, Subaru markets the 'lifestyle marketing' of their vehicles....and AWD is part of that marketing...but certainly not the entire package. Frankly, I view Subaru's AWD as somewhat of a marketing gimmick. The vast majority that own them don't need it...but it fits their 'lifestyle marketing profile'.

Those of us that know you absolutely don't *need* AWD, this would be perfect.

Oh..and it would be super great if Toyota would release an AWD version of the Corolla Cross in the future.
