Hey there! I own a Three Touring 2016 Prius — does anyone know if there will be an update for those who own a 2016 model? I’m thinking of trading my Prius in since it has close to 85,000 miles on it... but also thinking of waiting... but in the mean time I’d love to have Apple Carplay in the car. Would love some thoughts & ideas. Thanks in advance!

Not that we’re aware. 2016-2018 vehicles use a different headunit (even though they look similar). If you want CarPlay, you’ll have to shell out for a used 2019 or new 2020.

Check out Crutchfield for possible upgrades to your car stereo. You can enter your vehicle year and model to see which ones are compatible.

Now that I'm commuting to a workplace 21 miles away, it is killing me that my 2019 doesn't have Sirius radio. I had satellite radio in a base-model 2015 other make, but here in 2019 this damned thing came with a CD player?! If it wasn't for the reliability of Toyota drivetrains... they'd lose a lot of clients based on antiquated interiors and infotainment systems.

Are you sure it doesn't have Sirius? I know our 2019 Prime Plus has it and if the free starter subscription ran out, you can always reload it ;).

I have a 38 mile one way commute so I use Sirius for that and we usually will take the Prime when we do trips that aren't a week long, so keeping Sirius makes a bit of sense:).

Have you tried calling Sirius and seeing if they have it on file:whistle:?

It's an L Eco, so in Toyota's mind it didn't deserve a modernized radio (like other manufacturers had) from 2015 despite it being a 2019.

My argument is that if I can get satellite radio in other base model vehicles from years ago, why would Toyota not make an effort by 2019? Anyway, I am now inching closer to getting a head unit for it now that we're all back traveling to work again.

Here's the radio on our Prime, which probably resembles yours:):

This has a CD player and it came with Sirius XM radio that I still use today;).

Will I ever use the CD player:whistle:?

    That's a different topic for a different conversation (y).

    @ginadrums

Why buy an efficient car that's going to last for a long time and then go into debt again for a radio?

People always like to point out all of the disadvantages of living in LA but you folks are like the 'Saudi Arabia' of car stereo shops!

    Pick one.
    Change out the head unit.
There are threads here in PC or you can go to the University of YouTube so you can make an informed decision and not lose whatever things are decent with your present infotainment system.

    Good Luck!

    Mambo Dave,

I made my dealer install a conversion unit http://tinyurl.com/y63kcmu8 (at their cost) BEHIND the vehicle's radio before accepting delivery of my 2019 XLE last October. The only negative is that they had to also attach the barely noticeable antenna on the roof next to the stock sharkfin antenna.

Works fine, but there are a couple of extra steps when changing channels that are not numerically close to each other.

Now isn't THAT cool. Thank you. Doesn't look like that kit comes with an antenna. What did you use?

Could I see a picture or two of how it shows up on your OEM radio, blane? (y)
