I was parked on the side of the street. A van crashed into the back end of my Prius 2014.

I was ok but the prius looks bad. The other driver said it may be totaled.

I hope it is fixable. I don't wanna waste the good car. I have always been babied it.

Just hope the insurance won't just send me a check instead of fixing it, if the quote for fix exceeds the value of the car.

Doesnt look that bad, a good shop should be able to paint and straighten it out, slap some bondo on it and repaint the same bumper and just toss a new light on it.

Glad to hear no one was hurt. Did you engage parking brakes at the time it was hit? This is one of the times when parking brake saves your transmission getting jacked up when hit from behind or in front while parked.

    Too bad.
Don't worry what the "Other Driver" thinks. -from this point on, that's probably the least important opinion possible.

Take a few deep breaths, and then take it step by step.

    Hard to tell from pictures.
Off the cuff, it looks repairable to me.

Now I could open the can of worms as to whether you really want it repaired or would be better off if it's totaled. BUT...like I said, one step at a time.

A quick KBB on your car indicates a trade-in value of approx $8,900. I think they have to "total" it at 80% of value, so if you can get it fixed for $7,120 or less, then you are good to go.

Is the floor buckled the floor in the back? Can you see whether stuff is bent underneath? Looks like the fuel filler was involved.

Massachusetts is a no fault state. On the one hand, it will be easier working with your own insurance company. OTOH, your rates are gonna go up even though you were not a fault.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Quarter panel damage is about the most expensive to repair. Especially when hit from behind. I would say that the unibody has been compromised. That being said, it’s most likely going to be a total.

Did the wheel (and rear axle) get bent? Hard to tell?

Did you drive it even a few feet after the hit? If so did it seem ok, or messed up?

If there are structural damages, car frame integrity would be compromised even if all cosmetic parts are replaced or restored. It can be written off just with structural damage alone.

UPDATE: The repair shop my car was towed to said the repair is estimated to 3k. So it is repairable.

Indeed it was, one year of autobody class will teach you that.

So we should all take autobody class so if we have a wreck we can estimate our own damage?
    That comment sounds very condescending.

Congrats -- that's the outcome you wanted so its a good day.

Gee, Bondo must have gone up in price -- lol.

Hopefully they replaced the panel and did the job right.
