Is 2013 Prius v five wagon for $5000 with 168,000miles on it a good deal? Unfortunately, it has a/c issue. Not blowing cold. No lights (symbols) alert. Seller says doesn’t know what’s wrong, and I’m very leery. I don’t want a money pit. Any advice is appreciated from knowledgeable person(s). THANKS

    welcome!

if all you have is 5k, don't buy a hybrid. they're all money pits in that range, unless you can diy.

    a/c alone could be thousands

So much agree with Bisco! Don't be fooled by the great mpg. 168k on a Hybrid is in the range of soon needing a lot of costly maintenance.

Stay away. There is an issue with the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system in these cars. If uncleaned, the EGR clogs and can lead to a head gasket failure.

There have been folks here who have purchased Priuses at similar mileages, only to discover this problem emerging.

Buy a used Corolla (or a Matrix if you can find one).

Ask the seller for any maintenance receipts. Get the vin from him and call a local toyota dealer and ask them to check maintance records for the veh.
And while you are at it, ask what would it take to get the a/c running with cool air. If all checks out, and there has been good maintenance, it could be a good buy. Some Prius V's have gone to over 350 K miles with proper maint.

    No........................
No............................ get a regular used car. Plus it will need a New Traction Battery Soon....and Master Cylinder and Pump. These and the AC are more than $5000.
