There should be ductwork that connects the HV battery to an exhaust Port that is located above and behind your 12-volt battery The HV battery is composed oh 28 NiMH modules , connected in series like Christmas tree lights. When you remove the orange safety plug, you are opening that series circuit, removing the high voltage.

 

The high voltage battery, also known as the traction battery that powers the hybrid system, is an NIMH battery that does not have a battery acid hose. As stated by George W above, it is made up of 28 modules (that are sealed). It is not a lithium battery. Only very experienced owners install a high voltage battery on their own.

 

No and you cannot put a Lithium Ion battery into a Prius charging system designed for Nickel Metal Hydride.

Please explain more fully what you are doing. Are you replacing your hybrid high voltage battery with cells from new prius batteries? If so, where are you in the process?

 

Yes I’m replacing. I preordered mine. Already took the old battery out. So I wanna know if I understand correctly before I install.

 

Some day you may want to put OEM back in the car. Keep the old vent hose, you never know when spare parts will come in handy for older Prius.

That looked like sloppy typing to me. Remove apparently inadvertent the line feed and it becomes, "they are NiMH like the original and they are not vented..."

 

Is there a pdf copy of the instruction manual?

 

I looked on the website where you buy the kit and the instructions on that page looked pretty straightforward.

 

Ask 2K1Toaster, the man you preordered from. He'll be happy to email you a pdf of the procedure. Also, check out youtube videos for clues to the details the Instructions skipped over. I don't know how often this manual is updated, but I had to re-read certain sections several times to understand where steps are slightly out of sequential order.
Also, if you see youtube videos of guys who claim they can do it in an hour or less, they are skipping steps they've learned through rote, but a novice should see. If you see that one video of a guy who does it in 28 minutes, he's injured his spine doing this work, so you won't learn anything but how to ruin your back.
