SWMBO wouldn't have to keep reminding me to cancel the flashers after merging into the freeway.

 

Wow..that is the pro level DIY of doing something with complicated process.

I replaced the flasher relay and it's adjustable so I can control the flashing speed.

 

After getting whacked hard twice in the rear on my G2 I added a motorcycle blinker kit to the center brake light. Very very noticeable. Have it set to 4 blinks every time the brake pedal is pushed.

Haven't been hit since that was 8 years ago. All my cars have it.

 

I'm looking for one that only blinks every 2-3 minutes or so. Meaning it flashes the first time you hit the brakes, then switches to simple pass-thru for the next few minutes. I want to be seen, but I don't need it to be a constant visual nuisance either.

I don't want it to flash every single time I hit the brakes, because that would be annoying to somebody behind me for a long time i.e. dense traffic.

I want it to do the blinky thing when I hit the brakes. And then NOT blink if I use the brakes again within the next 2 minutes of that moment.

Once I make it 2 minutes without brakes, the blink will arm itself again. Rinse, repeat. I've now found a few that can do it, just trying to decide whose is best.

 

In my opinion, the best option would be when it started flashing only when we pressed the brake hard and it shone normally when we braked gently. Just like it is in OEM cars. Flashing every time can really piss someone off

In most states you are not suppose to have flashing brake lights, or other lights.
Unless you have an emergency vehicle or maintenance vehicle.
And usually if someone is pumping there brake lights it means someone seriously is happening in
front of them and they are trying to warn those behind them.

 

This is the default operation in the USA. I used Carista to change it from three to five flashes.

 

Legal compliance is retained by never extinguishing the brake lamp in question. The apparent blink is achieved by cycling between full and partial brightness. The better flasher modules accommodate this function.

@LukUsc Some also incorporate their own G-meters; you can have the flash function only when a certain threshold deceleration occurs.

I have a motorcycle blinker in all my cars set to blink just the center brake light. It’s set to blink 5 times
My g2 was hit multiple times in the back and has not been hit since. One time I was in the car driving and git hurt.
Been years.

Having said that I’m sure it I’ll get totaled next week but not before I install it’s new battery

 

Nice dead bug, if I just want to modify the lamp failure check so it doesn't hyperflash, what would the modification be?
I have ordered a whole bunch of low values resistors to see if I can get it working with 1.5W bulbs (3W load), if my math is right, I'll need 0.5ohm (target of 2.4W) since the stock shunt is 30miliohms for a 21-28W load (on my flasher)

I got the CF18 and there's indeed a 1 sec delay before it starts flashing, I got the Novita LM449, while there's no delay with that one, it flashes faster...

 

Ah I figured out, so just isolate pin 10 and connect a 250k ohm resistor to +12V, I tried with 220k and 300k, both seems to work fine.
