Is there a thread somewhere about li-ion assembly from 3-gen to 2-gen? Is it real at all? I'm also trying to find a topic about expanding the capacity / installing an extra battery. Can You help me indicate where to look for it? Thx
You are probably misunderstanding (maybe due to poor translation) or remembering incorrectly. It is not possible to transplant Gen 4 Li-Ion modules into a Gen 2. Try searching and reading up in the Prius PHEV Plug-In Modifications forum.
I think some of the addon plugin kits for Gen 3 used Li-Ion. Those companies and their products died out after the PiP was introduced. They had a Li-Ion specific charging circuit though.
Maybe I gave the wrong model type 3th (in Europe we didn't have so many of them ) But I meant the packet 207.2 volts for lithium vs 201.6 volts for nickel-metal. (Looking very similar) From what I read, Toyota offered them interchangeably in one of the models. Hence the idea of trying to replace the HV battery with a li-ion. I understand that there is no option to replace Ni-Mh with li-ion in this way? Of course, I mean replacing the entire HV battery with BMS, etc. Not just individual modules.

Toyota does offer both types of batteries in the 4th generation, but you get whatever technology your particular model comes with. There is no option to, for example, get a 2020 trim 4 with a NiMH battery. Only the AWDe gets that. And there is no way to get an AWDe with Li-Ion. It ONLY comes with NiMH.
But it is possible to transplant Gen 4 NiMH modules into a Gen 2 or 3. Toyota claims they used a higher grade nickel in Gen 4 modules.
Toyota's literature calls it "Prius Plug-in Hybrid." But around here we tend to simplify it to PiP. Economy of syllables. Plug in Prius Is there a more accurate abbreviation?
